The Top Ten TV Faces I Miss The Most: We're on a First-Name Basis

By Joanna Robinson | Posted Under Miscellaneous | Comments (96)

Pushing Daisies.jpeg

Three morsels of news featuring a few of my favorite TV actors broke this week. Adrienne Palicki from “Friday Night Lights” is going to be the new Wonder Woman for that rumored-to-be-dreadful David E. Kelly pilot! Kristen Bell somehow snagged a show with Don Cheadle!! And, finally, in the biggest non-news news of the week, the Science Channel will be re-airing “Firefly” in its entirety starting March 6. Fresh on the scene to report on this non-news, “Entertainment Weekly” strong-armed Nathan Fillion (currently snarkily smarming his way into America’s hearts on “Castle”) into admitting that he would shimmy into those tight pants and play Captain Malcolm Reynolds again.

But you know, I’m not dying for more Mal (blasphemy!!!), because Nathan Fillion will always find work. Ditto when it comes to the tiny Bell and the Amazonian Palicki. They are such stuff as stars are made on. It’s the supporting cast from my favorite shows that I miss the most. It’s a strong support characters, truth be told, that cement a show’s place in my heart. These are characters you feel you know from watching them week in and week out and are played by actors I may forever associate with these roles. In fact, I’ve been known to refer to these actors by their character names. I’ve said too much, haven’t I? I’m going to go read a book.

Here, while I try to improve my rotting mind, you should peruse this list of familiar faces from my favorite (with one glaring exception) shows which were either cancelled before their time, ran their course, or just ended their run last week and I’m still really sad and I miss it already and there will never be anything like it. Texas Forever. (These are all actors, by the way, who don’t have any TV series in the works otherwise numbers 1-10 might have been Benjamin Linus).

Liza ‘Paris’ Weil—“Gilmore Girls”: Lauren Graham has already landed (for the time being) on “Parenthood” and Alexis Bledel’s wide-eyed mumbling got tired for me after Season 3. But, oh, how I miss Paris for both her snark and her adorable anxiety.
liza_weil_03.jpeg

Percy ‘Wallace’ Daggs III—“Veronica Mars”: Wallace was such a grounded character and, despite what’s going on in this particular photo, his face was usually a nice antidote to Kristen Bell’s smug mugging (love you, V!). Remember when he left for half a season and we all cried? Remember when they hardly used him at all in Season Three? Criminal.
WallaceVM.jpeg

Jewel ‘Kaylee’ Staite—“Firefly”: The brightest and bubbliest member of the Serenity crew, Kaylee is not the kind of character I usually respond to. But her chipper delivery eventually wore me down to the point where I find myself missing her little grease-smudged chipmunk face.
Firefly.jpeg

Jorge ‘Hurley’ Garcia—“Lost”: Dude! Don’t deny it, you miss Hugo. Maybe even a bit more than you miss Sawyer. When Garcia showed up on both “How I Met Your Mother” and “Mr. Sunshine” this year playing slight variations on a castaway theme, it gave me the warm fuzzies.
Lost.jpeg

Tina ‘Mac’ Majorino—“Veronica Mars”: Mac here had quite the child actor career before “Veronica Mars” (including, but not limited to, the “I Will Always Watch It When It Is On Cable” classic Corinna, Corinna and Napoleon Dynamite’s boondoggle-making, college-bound Deb). But she will always and forever be Mac to me, the best teenage Q there ever was.
MacVM.jpeg

Jesse ‘Landry’ Plemons—“Friday Night Lights”: Oh you can keep your Timmy Riggins and your Matty Saracens, what the world needs now is Landry, sweet Landry. Whereas some people see “Matt Damon left in the oven too long,” I see the best little ginger albino in Texas. I’d even endure a Crucifictorious concert for him, such is my love. Just kidding, Landry, play “She Don’t Use Jelly” again!!
FNL.jpeg

Judy ‘Carla’ Reyes—“Scrubs”: Ugh, you can keep your Elliots and J.D.s, Carla was the queen of Sacred Heart hospital. I know it, you know it and Dr. Cox knows it.
Scrubs.jpeg

Enver ‘Victor’ Gjokaj—“Dollhouse”: Unless you were hugely committed to making any Joss Whedon project a success, you probably stopped watching “Dollhouse” after the first few episodes. In the end, the only ones watching were the Whedon acolytes, the Helo enthusiasts and me. The bright spot (aside from Eliza Dushku’s, ehm, “talents”) was Enver Gjokai’s Victor. This actor came from nowhere to steal every scene and, due to the stupid premise of this stupid show, was able to flex his uncanny ability for accents and mimicry. In fact, despite how burned I felt by the show, should Whedon make a spin-off called “The Victor-ian Dollhouse,” I’d totally watch it. Give this man his own pilot. Seriously.
normal_enver_gjokaj_foto.jpeg

Andre ‘Bubbles’ Royo—“The Wire”: Caught somewhere between the cops and the drug dealers of Baltimore was my favorite character with my favorite story arc of tragedy and redemption. Not as flashy as Omar, nor as stoically gritty as Kima, Bubbles was, to me, the most real, and I miss his face.
The Wire.jpeg

Jason ‘Logan’ Dohring—“Veronica Mars”: MY INNER THOUGHTS: Joanna, you do realize this makes the third “Veronica Mars” character on the list? MY OUTER THOUGHTS: Yup! MY INNER THOUGHTS: Don’t you think that’s a little excessive? MY OUTER THOUGHTS: Nope! MY INNER THOUGHTS: Did you compose this list because your friend is just now watching “Veronica Mars” for the first time and you wanted an excuse to write about the show? MY OUTER THOUGHTS: Ermmmm. MY INNER THOUGHTS: Where’s Keith Mars then? MY OUTER THOUGHTS: He’s doing some weird Canadian cop show I’ve never heard of. MY OUTER THOUGHTS: Well, shall we do Duncan next? MY OUTER THOUGHTS: Don’t be crazy. MY INNER THOUGHTS: Mmmm, Logan. MY OUTER THOUGHTS: Mmmm, Logan. MY INNER THOUGHTS: Um, let’s go read that book you were talking about. MY OUTER THOUGHTS: Totes.

I miss Dr. Perry Cox. So MUCH.

Posted by: Melody at February 18, 2011 11:44 AM

I love this list SO MUCH (especially your thought battle over Jason Dohring mmmm), but it's also quite sad that we haven't seen their faces in so long. *tear*

Also, who would've thought that the DEAD girl from VMars would become the most successful after the show?!

Posted by: gee. ay. at February 18, 2011 11:45 AM

Great list (even if I haven't watched all the shows in question). I fully support these folks getting some good work. Hollywood, get on this right now!

Posted by: tamatha at February 18, 2011 11:48 AM

Thank you, Lobster, for these pics. They have made my heart grow. I want to rewatch Veronica Mars if only for Jason Dohring.

Oh, and I watched every single episode of Dollhouse, no matter how awful. Enver can get it.

Posted by: Patty O'Green at February 18, 2011 11:48 AM

Losing Veronica Mars still stings...and mmmmm Logan...

Posted by: staceygarrett at February 18, 2011 11:52 AM

I agree with all of these. Andre Royo is showing up on "Fringe," but not with enough regularity to satisfy me. I guess he will be in an upcoming episode, so I look forward to that.
I wish Jewel Staite would show up in SOMETHING, dammit. We have Morena Baccarin in that ridiculous short hair on "V," and thank dog we have Fillion on TV every week. Chipmunk face? Really?

Posted by: nat at February 18, 2011 11:53 AM

I stuck with Dollhouse and have some serious fantasies that involve Enver Gjokaj. Seriously that man was amazing and I loved him.

I also very much Carla and he voice. She reminds me of my Persian friend.

Posted by: Nimue at February 18, 2011 11:56 AM

I'm gonna drop something you won't believe. Enver Gjokaj was my classmate at UC Berkeley. So was Chris Pine.

Those were some crazily talented years at Cal it seems. Im glad they got much love they deserve.

A tidbit of info. Enver got an identical twin. One of them were notorious womanizer, but I can't remember which now.

Posted by: yocean at February 18, 2011 11:58 AM

I had a huge crush on Jason Dohring during Veronica Mars. Then in season two he started to date Hannah Griffith, played by Jessy Schram. Now I love Jessy. I actually used to work with her and she's a lovely and sweet girl. But she is so wee. And I realized how little Jason must be, and my crush was over. Why are most actors so tiny?

Posted by: Scully at February 18, 2011 12:04 PM

I can approve of this list. Maybe with the exception of Dohring. I never got what all the fuss was about but to each their own. I would basically fill this list with people from the Whedonverse. Enver Gjokaj will be on Community soon, so there is that to look forward to.

Posted by: Phedre at February 18, 2011 12:05 PM

You don't know how much I actually want to re-watch Dollhouse just for Enver Gjokaj's scenes. As the lothario, as that party girl, as Topher Brink. Actually, I wouldn't mine a spin-off about Victor and Sierra. Whedon, get on that.

Posted by: Kazza at February 18, 2011 12:09 PM

so...you're just gonna have a banner pic of "pushing daisies" and not say anything about it?

that show was the tits.

Posted by: djdev at February 18, 2011 12:10 PM

Yeah, I also really hated Logan Echolls, so blah. But the rest of the list, I approve! You know who I'm going to miss from FNL, though? GRANDMA SARACEN. I fucking love her, and I'm guessing confused, Texas granny roles are not so plentiful.

Posted by: The Wandering Parakeet at February 18, 2011 12:12 PM

PARIS. Ooh I miss Paris so much. I also miss Lorelai's parents and Lane. I remember screaming out in joy when I recognized Zach on True Blood. That was such a great cast and I love to see any of them getting work.

I also miss Carla and Dr. Cox.

The others I don't really care about, since I never liked Veronica Mars.

You know who else I miss? Richard Schiff, who played Toby on The West Wing. He was always my favorite on that show. Also Callum Blue and Mandy Patinkin from Dead Like Me

Posted by: Figgy at February 18, 2011 12:16 PM

I know it's not the same as real TV, but Liza Weil had a guest role playing a therapist on the web series Anyone But Me. She's not as snarky as she was on Gilmore Girls, but she did an amazing job. I highly recommend it.

Posted by: Angry Pedestrian at February 18, 2011 12:17 PM

Ooh, don#t get me started on the West Wing. I just finished a rewatch and I miss them all so much! But I actually want them all back together, walking and talking and bantering. Sigh. I would have totally watched another six seasons with Jimmy Smits as President Santos. Where is he at incidentally?

Posted by: Phedre at February 18, 2011 12:20 PM

Ok, so it hardly counts, but Callum Blue was on The Tudors for a while.

And I'm also confused by the banner- no Kristen Chenowith or Chi McBride adoration? They were the cutest together.

Posted by: Ruby at February 18, 2011 12:21 PM

Enver Gjokaj will be on Community soon

::heartstop::

Posted by: Patty O'Green at February 18, 2011 12:22 PM

I would argue that the first season of Dollhouse got good halfway through. Also, Whiskey was my fantasy maker on that show.

Posted by: The_wakeful at February 18, 2011 12:22 PM

I ain't admitting anything.

Posted by: Cindy at February 18, 2011 12:24 PM

Patty: I know! It's just a guest appearance though.

Posted by: Phedre at February 18, 2011 12:24 PM

Oh wow, I think might have dreamed of this list somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind but never quite remembered it when I woke up. Bubbles made me cry. And Logan.Damn I miss those shows. Come Back you! I want one more season!

I'd also include Luke the coffee guy from Gilmore Girls. Is he doing anything ?

Posted by: Gemmazemma at February 18, 2011 12:25 PM

Patty: I know! It's just a guest spot though.

Posted by: Phedre at February 18, 2011 12:26 PM

yocean:A tidbit of info. Enver got an identical twin. One of them were notorious womanizer, but I can't remember which now.

Holy Sh*t, there are two of them! The reignites my long buried twin fantasies.

Posted by: Drake at February 18, 2011 12:26 PM

Ok, that was weird... Anyway I also want Luke back! So gruff and yet lovable.

Posted by: Phedre at February 18, 2011 12:27 PM

Oh a list! Here are some of mine:

- Peter Jurasik and Andreas Katsulas as Londo Mollari and G'Kar in "Babylon 5." NO ONE on TV today chews scenery and spits it out like those two could. RIP.

- Kandyse McClure as Dee in "BSG." Her role always struck me as the most difficult. She would never make the decisions. She would never fight the battles. But without her nothing happened. Oh and she was cute to boot!

- William Sanderson as the sniveling E.B. Farnum in "Deadwood." Obviously the Olyphant and Ian McShane ruled that show, but I loved how Farnum was never out of the mix -- even though he was never the bravest, ruthless, rich or strongest. And the way he would treat the old cook like crap and yet care for him at times was a reminder that even dicks have feelings.

Posted by: Fredo at February 18, 2011 12:28 PM

*waves 'hi' to all my TV friends*

Ugh, I watched Dollhouse to the end and it was all for Enver Gjokaj. It's sad to hear that he doesn't have anything in the works. He was so damn good on that show and so damn good to look at.

It was nice to see Bubbles on Fringe a few episodes back. I was more disappointed to see Lester on Covert Affairs and I think I saw Bunk on a commercial for one of those Tyler Perry shows. But I'm hoping I'm just crazy. Landry is going to be in that Battleship movie with Riggins, so I guess that'll be like a very mini FNL reunion. Texas Forever.

You can talk about VMars as much as you want in my book. In fact, you could do the reverse of this list and it could be about supporting characters we don't miss and still kind of hate. 2-10 could be Piz, 1 could be Piz's stupid hair, and at the end you could attach a video of stupid Piz and his stupid hair getting his stupid ass kicked by Logan.

Piz is the worst.

Posted by: jM at February 18, 2011 12:28 PM

Naveen Andrews! I miss his hotness on my TV every week.

Posted by: Figgy at February 18, 2011 12:29 PM

Whatever happened to Max Gail? I miss my Wojo.

Posted by: The Mutt at February 18, 2011 12:31 PM

Tina Majorino plays Heather on Big Love, though not a huge part, her face still graces the tube. An HBO, premium tube who thinks they are slightly better than everyone else because its viewers have to pay extra just to watch, but still a tube.

According to IMDB, she was on a show called "The Deep End" that aired on ABC in 2010. Never heard of it but Clancy Brown was in it which is a solid bonus but so was Billy Zane which could very well cancel out the Clancy bonus.

Solid list though otherwise.

Posted by: TVConnoisseur at February 18, 2011 12:32 PM

Enver Gjokaj will be on Community soon, so there is that to look forward to.

Can this be forever? Please?!

Posted by: jM at February 18, 2011 12:34 PM

Umm... isn't Jorge Garcia going to be on the new J.J. Abrams show about Alcatraz? Pretty sure I read that he's playing a hippy doctor or something. He's also been in How I Met Your Mother and Mr. Sunshine since LOST ended. I love Hurley, too, but it's not like he's suddenly unemployed.

If Jewel Staite plays her cards right, she can work in genre shows for the rest of her career. (She's also amazing in person, and, somehow, even more beautiful.)

@the_wakeful: Amy Acker, always.

Posted by: RobP at February 18, 2011 12:34 PM

Tina ‘Mac’ Majorino

At least we'll always have Waterworld.

Also, I have many fantasies involving both Enver Gjokaj and Tamoh Penikett. It would be a super hard threesome to pronounce, but on the other hand, it would be a super hard threesome. Awwwww yeeeeaaaahhh. They are the reason I own both seasons of Dollhouse on DVD.

Posted by: Anna von Beav at February 18, 2011 12:36 PM

Ok, so Mac was good on The Deep End, but the rest of that show kind of sucked.

Posted by: Ruby at February 18, 2011 12:40 PM

I miss Lee Pace and Caroline Dhavernas....and Anna Friel.

Also Jason was in Moonlight sooo...he at least had another series post Mars. Funny because I've just started back into rewatching season 2 on netflix of Veronica

Posted by: Luke at February 18, 2011 12:42 PM

Ruby the rest of that show SUPER sucked. Like a hoover. I watched it just for Mac.

jM yes, forever and always. Please. I want to go to there and build a house and raise my family.

Posted by: Joanna Robinson at February 18, 2011 12:42 PM

I believe Richard Schiff is a regular on the just-launched Criminal Minds spinoff CM: Suspect Behavior.

Seeing him pop up in a recent 30 Rock made me realize how much I'd like to see John Cho on a regular basis--on something better than FlashForward please.

Posted by: kronos at February 18, 2011 12:44 PM

A tidbit of info. Enver got an identical twin. One of them were notorious womanizer, but I can't remember which now.

In the words of Captain Jack Harkness, "I can't tell you what I'm thinking right now!"

Posted by: Patty O'Green at February 18, 2011 12:47 PM

A tidbit of info. Enver got an identical twin.

Oh my god, I want to be the middle of an Enver sandwich.

Posted by: Lauren at February 18, 2011 12:51 PM

Dang, yocean, now I'm dying to know if Enver Gjokaj was the crazy womanizer! I hope not. I have much love for him.

Posted by: candace at February 18, 2011 12:52 PM

@Fredo, Andreas Katsulis' G'Kar was one of the finest characterizations and executions of 90s TV. There was so much about that show that was ridiculous (production design, Londo's hair, sfx, time travel plot, Londo's hair) but the acting and writing was what made me stick with it to the end.

Posted by: Ian at February 18, 2011 12:54 PM

Joanna what's with teasing us with a header image of Pushing Daisies but not mentioning it at all?!

Lee Pace should get more parts as he's great. And Kristin Chenoweth, love her! And as much as I like looking at Anna Friel, from what I've read she's a horrible person. *sad face* Nice tits though.

Posted by: WhentheMoonFalls at February 18, 2011 12:56 PM

Dear Readers,

When doing a bit of research for this list I found out that Lee Pace will be appearing in the upcoming Twilight films. This made me so ragey stabby that I couldn't even write about my love for "Pushing Daisies" or for Ned and Chuck. But I also couldn't bring myself to change the header photo. . .because they're so adorable. Look at them. Chi McBride is on another show (too lazy to look it up again), otherwise he totes would have been on this list.

Lee Pace, you've betrayed me. It'll be DAYS before I can watch The Fall again.

-JR

Posted by: Joanna Robinson at February 18, 2011 1:01 PM

Enver Gjokaj

Seriously, out of the clusterfuck that was Dollhouse, dude was crazy talented AND good-looking. I thought I read he had been cast in some upcoming pilot which didn't sound promising from its description, which made me sad. But maybe I imagined it.

I assume (ASS-U-ME) you checked their IMDB pages, Miss Joanna?

Posted by: MM at February 18, 2011 1:01 PM

I even tried to watch Happy Town just out of love for Amy Acker, but... no. I'll stick with Angel on Netflix.

kronos, Jon Cho was great on 30 Rock! "Where are my manners? Would you like some meth?" It helped to wash away the bad FlashForward memories.

Posted by: jM at February 18, 2011 1:03 PM

Um, I was writing my comment about IMDB pages as you posted yours... Never mind...

Posted by: MM at February 18, 2011 1:04 PM

Ian, looking at the show, it's amazing how much they did with their miniscule SFX budgets, the constant threats of cancellation, the lack of major network support, the cringe-worthy aspect of some of the actors, etc.

And yet, it works because the show is about ideas and about characters. It's about following these broken people through transformations and how no one was one-dimensional. Every character could be both hero and villain; be laughing one moment and sad the next.

And of course, Moments like this one

Posted by: Fredo at February 18, 2011 1:05 PM

Enver was SO good. His performances constantly blew me away and he embodied the different characters so FUCKING well and was so believable as every single one.

And he's gonna be on Community? AHHHH I am so excited for this!

Posted by: denesteak at February 18, 2011 1:11 PM

Sabrina Lloyd, won't you please come back to us? We'll always have "Sliders" and "Sports Night"!

Posted by: branded at February 18, 2011 1:18 PM

I miss Jack Bauer, Detective Vic Mackey, Captain Malcolm Reynolds, Buffy Summers, Seth Bullock, Olive Snook, Titus Pullo, Kara Thrace, Fox Mulder, and all their friends, enemies, and family members both living and dead.

Posted by: TylerDFC at February 18, 2011 1:19 PM

I miss Lindsay Price, who is so adorable, but a proven jinx to any new series. Also, Brooke Langton whose beauty and raspy voice made an amazing one-two punch to my heart with Sarah Shahi on the short-lived "Life". Finally, the pre-Affleck Jennifer Garner, who exuded a sweetness and bad-assness simultaneously and willed me into watching five seasons of a show that I normally would have completed passed on.

Posted by: swingdude at February 18, 2011 1:21 PM

- Peter Jurasik and Andreas Katsulas as Londo Mollari and G'Kar in "Babylon 5." NO ONE on TV today chews scenery and spits it out like those two could. RIP.

Londo and G'Kar are my favorite. Also, Vir.

And sometimes, Sinclair and his "I know... I've read the script" face.

Posted by: Anna von Beav at February 18, 2011 1:22 PM

candace

I don't believe Enver was the womanizing one, as he was more serious about acting, though I cannot be sure. They were both fun and dramatic.

Posted by: yocean at February 18, 2011 1:27 PM

I've only seen lost and Scrubs from this list. I don't miss Hurley yet because I'm still on Season 3. There are many many characters on Scrubs I miss more than Carla.

Posted by: Paultera at February 18, 2011 1:30 PM

my vote goes for Sabrina "Natalie" Lloyd from Sports Night. so cute. so earnest.

in completely unrelated news... HOLY SHIT I LOVE SPORTS NIGHT!!1! WHY THE FUCK WAS IT AROUND ONLY FOR TWO SEASONS?!

i was living in Europe at the time and so never got to see it when it was running, but a few days ago i watched an episode at my friend's place (he has the DVDs) and i fell in love with it. i watched the entire two seasons in two nights and now there's an empty abyss in my soul that can only be filled by more Sports Night. alas i am doomed to live with this void for ever.

Posted by: causaubon at February 18, 2011 1:38 PM

Great list, especially Jason Dohring. God, I miss him on my TV. Logan was the only reason I kept watching the show when it started to suck so bad in that last season.

Oh, Paris! I love Paris. So much better than perfect little Rory. A part of me is still pissed that Rory got in at every school she applied while Paris's Harvard dreams were crushed. Paris > Rory, forever.

Posted by: Casey at February 18, 2011 1:43 PM

I miss Ned and Chuck... Damn ABC. And DOUBLE DAMN them for taking away Veronica and Ted and the rest of the crew at Veridian Dynamics.

No love for Life? Charlie Crews and Dani Reese anyone?

Posted by: reaperslogic at February 18, 2011 1:55 PM

Every time I watch Veronica Mars, I think to myself, "I want a Wallace." LOVE LOVE LOVE him. And of course Logan is the best ever. I miss them all so much.

And the entire cast of Scrubs.

Posted by: Mel C. at February 18, 2011 1:58 PM

I miss all of Stars Hollow too, but I have to say, I think Lauren Graham's relationship with Mae Whitman on just two short seasons of Parenthood is about to rival Lorelei and Rory. It's that damn good.

Posted by: Mel C. at February 18, 2011 2:01 PM

@RobP That Alcatraz project is listed on IMDB (cutting edge, insider Hollywood info!) as a TV movie. Is it, in fact, a series? I'll be very excited if it's a series.

Posted by: Joanna Robinson at February 18, 2011 2:05 PM

I'm still waiting for my Royal Wedding invitation. I wonder if they got my zip code wrong? I should call my pal Lizzie the Queen to make sure. Meanwhile, I shall shop for a giant feathered hat to wear.

I'd been waiting for an excuse to stop checking Jezebel (I liked their galleries, but Tom and Lorenzo's are better). The redesign did all my work for me. That thing is a fucking eyesore. I hope that this gets through the heads of all those fuckwits running websites who think that they HAVE to change just for the hell of it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I just don't get it--it was so easy to navigate and read, to look at top stories, to read comments, etc. Why make it so complicated and unreadable when you didn't have to?

And it's been confirmed: I will never like Radiohead.

Posted by: Figgy at February 18, 2011 2:11 PM

Um...well I posted that under the wrong thread.

I R GENIOOS.

Posted by: Figgy at February 18, 2011 2:13 PM

Definitely more Andre Royo would make the world a better place.

And I am curious how many of cried at the montage at the end of the Wire when Bubbles went upstairs for dinner?

Posted by: Sean at February 18, 2011 2:30 PM

AMEN, causaubon.

Posted by: bokchoi at February 18, 2011 2:39 PM

Oh I know! I miss Paris and the BAND so damn much it's ridiculous. I watch that show all.the.time.

Also I recently saw Jesse Plemons in a Kevin Spacey movie: he was a drug dealer. WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU LANCE!?

Posted by: grace b at February 18, 2011 2:49 PM

Also I watched the pilot for Dead Like Me and dare I say I like it!

Posted by: grace b at February 18, 2011 3:04 PM

I want to be the center of a delcious Logan Echolls and Pacey Whitter sandwich.

Good god, there's just something about misunderstood, wealthy sass-mouth that gives me sweaty bangs.

Posted by: Natalia at February 18, 2011 3:08 PM

I'm still waiting on the Hugo and Ben running the island team-up spin off that's surely going to happen....................Right?

Also you just awoke my sadness that I'll never see a finish to Veronica Mars.

Posted by: Alex at February 18, 2011 3:17 PM

@Joanna: Hmm... Everything I'd read previously said it was a new series, but maybe that changed. Or, the reports were wrong. Or, I'm an idiot. Damn you, IMDB!

Posted by: RobP at February 18, 2011 3:39 PM

I knew Andre Royo years ago when he was doing off-off Broadway. He was just starting to get movie roles then. He's a sweet, super-talented guy, and a true professional. Whenever I see him on tv, I smile and shout "Hi, Andre!" at the screen. He deserves major success.
Oh, and I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but Tina Majorino has had a recurring quest spot on Big Love for the past few years. It's not much, but it's something!

Posted by: mistress at February 18, 2011 3:40 PM

i miss frances (ruth fisher) conroy. she has a bit part on HIMYM, but i'd love to see her in a substantial role.

Posted by: celery at February 18, 2011 4:09 PM

I was under the assumption that Alcatraz would be a series from that trade post that Cindy wrote a while back. Although it will air on FOX, so maybe they just cancelled it preemptively and that is why it's listed as a TV movie. It wouldn't be the first time.

Posted by: Uda at February 18, 2011 4:23 PM

Upon further (read, some actual, legitimate) research, I see that it is a pilot. . .not, as IMDB said, a TV movie. AND THEY'RE FILMING IN MAH TOWN! HURLEY CALL ME OMG!

My Logan crush was, well, crushed when I learned that Jason Dohring was an avid, practicing Scientologist. What a total letdown that was. Sigh.

Posted by: GeekChic at February 18, 2011 4:30 PM

Hell yes! Victor was by far the best part of "Dollhouse" (besides Alan Tudyk's epic twist near the end of the season). That guy was a surprisingly versatile actor who I thought was really stupid at first but who turned out to be really brilliant.

Anyway. Just excited someone agreed with me on that.

@jM
Now that I think about it, FlashForward had quite a few actors I'd like to see more of: Jack Davenport, Gabrielle Union, and Gina Torres among others. At least its cancellation frees them up for better roles.

Posted by: kronos at February 18, 2011 4:35 PM

I stopped liking Logan at some point in season 2, so the Scientology thing never made much of a difference to me.

As much as I like Enver Gjokaj, Fran Kranz was my favourite person from Dollhouse. But the whole supporting cast was rather awesome.

reaperslogic, Sarah Shahi and Damian Lewis both have new shows, so I don't think they count.

Oh GeekChic, now I has a sad.

I'm glad someone mentioned Alan Tudyk. He really ought to be the captain of this list, unless he is currently involved in something I need to be watching...

If you miss the supporting cast of Veronica Mars so much, you should check out Party Down. A lot of alums make guest appearances, including Keith, who appears drunk and naked in one of the first episodes.

Well, I heard he's dating Adrienne Palicki...

yay him?

Personally, I feel like I do need to watch that...

But, yeah, Tudyk is amazing. I was a fan of his before, but his role at the end of S.1 Dollhouse completely floored me. So. Damn. Good. It made me buy the entire second season, sight unseen.

And huzzah for Hurley! Let's all throw Alcatraz parties like it's 1969!

I love you for reals, Joanna. LOGAN 4EVA!!!

There needs to be a ginger warning next time. I was not prepared for that much smuginger.

Posted by: duckandcover at February 18, 2011 6:59 PM

How can you mention VM in a post about TV faces you miss and not include Weevil? I know he's been popping up a bit lately in small one-off roles (how much did I love the mini VM reunion on Bones a few weeks ago with Enrico Colanti and Francis Capra? Sooooo much!) And speaking of Mr. Mars, I miss the hell out him, and hope to one day be as effortlessly cool and badass as him.

I miss Lauren Ambrose, Rachel Griffiths(yes, I know she's on Brothers and Sisters, no, I don't have enough self loathing to watch her in it) Patricia Clarkson, Joanna Cassidy, Justina Machado, and Matthew St. Patrick from SFU. Thankfully Peter Krause and Michael C. Hall are on great shows.

Both Gina Torres and Alan Tudyk from Firefly. Portia di Rossi. Everyone from AD, Better Off Ted, Party Down and Spaced.

I wish Melissa McCarthy had a better job, because I love her and miss Sookie St. James. I'm very happy for Jeremy Renner and wish him much continued success, but I miss seeing him weekly along with Harold Perrineau, Adam Goldberg, and Amber Tamblyn on The Unusuals.

Posted by: Christina at February 18, 2011 8:17 PM

Amber Tamblyn is on House. Chi McBride is on Human Target with Jackie Earl Haley and Susie from Torchwood/Vorenus's wife on Rome. Londo, Vir, G'Kar, and Lennier are in my heart.

There is no such thing as too much Veronica Mars. I'm glad someone mention the Scientology thing. I was never a Logan fan (I just don't see it, he's too feminine for me) and then after I found out about the L. Ron Hubbardism I was totally over him.

And I miss Carla too. My favorite Scrubs moment is when she is Turk's surgical nurse and he tells her outside the hospital she's the boss of everybody in the whole world. My fiance tells me he thinks of me every time that's on and it makes me smile.

Posted by: Austin at February 18, 2011 11:55 PM

Damnit, now i'm going to watch Veronica Mars seasons 1 and 2 again (season 3 can suck a dick) and i have two crazy hard tests monday. Thanks for further ruining my GPA.

Posted by: Pete at February 19, 2011 1:31 AM

pssst, Ursula, according to IMDb, Jason Dohring is 6', so I think you can safely continue your crush.

I miss everything about Pushing Daisies and Veronica Mars. EVERYTHING.

Others I miss:

Vaughn and Weiss and Jack Bristow from Alias

I also loved Paris and miss her, but I equally miss Lane and she was criminally underused in the later seasons (many things about those seasons were criminal)

All of the Buffy cast. Yes, yes Aly Hannigan and David Boreanaz are both on other shows, both of which I watch and like, but they will always be Willow and Angel to me, and I also miss Giles enormously.

Posted by: Even Stevens at February 19, 2011 2:15 AM

I thoroughly enjoyed Dollhouse from about half way through the first season. Don't get me wrong, episode 3 (the back-up singer episode) was perhaps the worst thing in history with Joss Whedon's name attached. But the first season of Buffy sucked, too. It was like RL Stine's Goosebumps: The TV Series (which really existed). Dollhouse got great way faster than Buffy did.

Of course, I won't claim that Dushku was amazing. The entire supporting cast, in particular Enver Gjokaj and Fran Kranz, were SO worth watching every week. Even Sierra had some great moments.

Enver Gjokaj having a guest spot on Community makes me so fucking happy. And it airs in two weeks! Now, how many times do I need to pray for it to be recurring for it to happen?

Posted by: Steve at February 19, 2011 6:36 AM

Hah! I used to watch Goosebumps, but in my defense I was seven or eight when it started.

I think there's a world of difference between the beginning of your first show and the beginning of your fourth show lacking in quality. Especially when there's a 12 year gap between them. Not that FOX doesn't share some of the blame for their meddlesome ways.

Posted by: Uda at February 19, 2011 9:47 AM

I know I'm probably the only person who watched Everwood, but I miss almost all the cast from that show. Tom Amandes (Dr. Abbott) has a guest spot on Parenthood, Emily Van Camp (Amy) was on Brothers and Sisters, but I'd love to see Gregory Smith (Ephriam) in something or Vivian Cardone (Delia). You know, pretty much everyone on that show was awesome.

Posted by: TWoP Fan at February 19, 2011 7:16 PM

I'm a middle-aged man, and I really miss seeing John (Frazier)Mahoney on my TV.

But as far as the younger actors go, I think Jesse Plemons from 'Friday Night Lights' is going to have an incredible career, hopefully in film. The 'Landry' character was one of the most refreshing, effortless and believable portrayals of a 'normal' human being I've watched in a long time.

I never thought 'FNL' was as great as others made it out to be, but performances like Plemons' are rare and beautiful.

It made my SO SAD when I found out Jason Dohring was a deep-routed Scientologist, coming from a Scio family. He used to be my crush.

It's "deep-rooted" of course and "me", doh. My emotions went wild with me.

And about Andre Royo: What a scene stealer on Fringe! Loved his two episodes.
