It’s one thing when your father-in-law gets you a job where you can fade into the background and let the employees do all the work — like, for instance, being the Chair of the Republican National Committee — but it’s quite another when somebody tells someone that they’re talented at something that’s so easily disputable.
The number of people who had to hide their cringing faces and nod happily when Lara Trump asked them if she could sing well must be in the double digits. Were they too scared to tell her she can’t sing? Or did they secretly want her to humiliate herself?

There are literally thousands of people who are enabling her. So many, in fact, that her tone-deaf cover of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” actually debuted at #10 on the Billboard sales chart.
Listen, spouses, parents, best friends, siblings, and casual acquaintances: Be honest with the people in your lives. It’s OK to be encouraging, but there’s a point where encouraging crosses over into cruelty. The people in Lara Trump’s life have crossed that line.
Update: Here she is without autotune. I’m so sorry.
