The top trending item on Facebook right now is Meghan McCain.

If you click on that, you’ll see that the article that is trending comes from a little-known right-wing publication called Printly.

Here’s what comes up when you click on Meghan McCain.

Good job, Facebook.

How’s that decision to get rid of human editors working out for you? Because when you leave the “editing” and “curating” to the FB masses, you get bullshit like this. And this is not the first heinous article I’ve seen amplified on Facebook since they removed human editors.

Look: I understand why Facebook might be worried about a perceived political bias (especially after one of its co-founders donated $20 million to the Clinton campaign in order to remove the threat of Trump), but there’s a way to be fair and balanced without amplifying sexist hate. You can start by weeding out the crazy.

I like Facebook. I use Facebook a lot. If I’ve been away from my computer for a few hours, I often check the trending items to see what I’ve missed. Without human editors to weed out the egregious bullshit, apparently what I missed was a woman being compared to a pig, and lines like these:

“She joins a chorus of other left wingers, RINOs, ‘cucks’ and social justice warriors in demanding Matt Lauer’s head for not being 100% biased in favor of Hillary. Sorry Meghan, it’s time for you to go back to the barn.”

Bring back the human editors, Facebook, because what’s being propagated on social media right now is ugly and cruel, and the way it’s being propagated rewards ugliness and cruelty. Don’t become Twitter.
