I do not follow Food Insider on Twitter, and yet it’s constantly on my timeline. Friends retweet it with incredulous captions about their latest trendy snack or outlandish appetizer. In theory, @InsiderFood is all about food porn, luscious close-ups of delectable dishes that make the lunch hour seem impossibly far away. But in reality, this account is dedicated to short videos of food that feels like it was concocted by a mad scientist, a sugar-frenzied 6-year-old, or a groan-worthy Instagram influencer. But which is the worst? The grossest? The most bonkers? The most SHUT IT DOWN?
Take a look at the atrocities foodies have wrought, then weigh in with your decision of damnation below.
Let’s kick things off with something colorful, a cappuccino whose special ingredient is eyesore food dye.

More bizarre than Rice Krispies cake is sushi cake. And sure, that might seem just like a quirky inoffensive gimmick. But then they dust the damn thing in Hot Cheetos.

If sushi shaped like sweets wasn’t enough of an abomination for you, how about sweets that look like sushi?

And then there’s the food catering to the Instagram crowd. Like a bunch of sliders stacked up and made soggy. You’re welcome?

Instagram shenanigans meets stomach-churning decadence with gold-dipped chicken wings. Like literally. These wings are $1,000, dipped in and dusted in real gold. Warning: the wafts of douche-bro from this video are so strong they may cause nausea.

And lastly, bugs. Yes, we probably should eat bugs. But not this way. Not in a way that makes them seem less an ingredient and more an infestation.
