I like this. It’s simple, and just… nice? A bloke, alone on Christmas in Vancouver, decides to host a Christmas dinner for other lonely people. He makes a well-edited video about the event, and it doesn’t look particularly as if the entire edifice has been erected primarily to promote a product or brand or anything like that. There’s just a lot of kindness and happiness on display. And, I like that. As a low key manifesto against contemporary political hegemony, I like that a lot. Neoliberalism wants nothing more than for everyone to be an isolated and atomised individual, concerned only with consumption and competition. Fragmented that way, humanity can’t fight back against the extreme corporatocracy that seeks to govern it. There’s no room in the internal logic of the free market for empathy, solidarity, or kindness. Today, kindness is rebellion. So good on you, mate. Well played.
