We love Nikki Glaser. The stand-up comedian who stood out on Inside Amy Schumer spoke to us with her fearless and funny sex-centered show Not Safe. She’s explored fetishes, tackled Tinder, scripted ludicrous porn dialogue, and hooked her parents up to a polygraph machine to interrogate them on their sex lives. (“Go, Dad!”) She even had our very own Riley Silverman on her show, because Glaser gets awesome.
We celebrated when her silly and shame-free series got a first-season extension. And as that pioneering premiere season draws to a close, we—and Glaser—are left wondering if Comedy Central has the balls to renew for round two! With the future uncertain, Glaser goes big in her finale speech, proving hilarious and heartfelt, shouting, “Don’t be quiet about sex! Be loud about it. Talk about it!”
“When we’re quiet and we treat sex as shameful or weird, we leave a void that anyone can fill with their own personal hang-ups or religious beliefs. And that’s where shit hits the fan,” Glaser declares. “And I don’t mean that in a fetishy sort of way.”
Glaser encourages us to embrace our love of sex, and by extension ourselves. She challenges us to call bullshit on hypocrisy and shame. And she does it with a joyful and irreverent warmth. We need more Not Safe.
We need more of this:
