The Caitlyn Jenner story seems to be entering its final phase i.e. South Park will be covering it on their … holy shit, 19th season premiere tomorrow night. In usual South Park fashion, the press release isn’t telling us too much.
The boys express their utmost respect for Caitlyn Jenner in the season premiere of “South Park” titled “Stunning and Brave” on Wednesday, September 16 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central. There is a new principal at the helm of South Park Elementary. He forces the boys to confront the damage they’ve done through their history of racism and unconscious bias. It is the most stunning and brave South Park ever.
I’m hoping that South Park manages to do something that not enough people in the media have been able to do: treat Caitlyn Jenner like a real person. And by that I don’t mean that they should respect those issues which Jenner doesn’t want to discuss (Ellen). Nor do I mean that they should stop asking intrusive, irrelevant questions about Jenner’s anatomy. And I really don’t mean that they should treat Jenner as a joke (like these assholes). People in general and the media in particular should treat Jenner with the basic decency that’s afforded to other people who haven’t recently become the maybe unwilling poster child for an entire group of people. So of course I think Parker and Stone will be able to discuss this topic with the proper amount of respect.
I mean, I hope that South Park acknowledges that Caitlyn Jenner might suck. Not because she’s trans, but just because she sucks. I’ve never watched Keeping Up With The Kardashians or I Am Cait so I can’t say definitively that I wouldn’t want to hang out with Caitlyn Jenner, but I do know for sure that I would never want to hang out with anyone she’s been married to/ spawned. Honestly, is there a single person who has been romantically linked to a Kardashian who you would want to hang out with?
That’s right, Person Who I’ve Recently Been Informed Is Not Donald Trump Jr. I would not want to hang out with you.
And guilt by association aside, Jenner herself has a lot of “problematic” views and ideologies. And when I say “problematic” I mean shitty. She believes a lot of shitty things. She’s entitled to her shitty opinions, and South Park is entitled to mock those shitty opinions.
Coming out as a trans person was an incredibly brave act. Jenner acted admirably when she didn’t allow other people’s bigotry and hatred to keep her from living openly. That means we should recognize her courage to stand up for herself and her community. That doesn’t mean we should forget she was married to this asshole for 20 years.
And if remembering that Caitlyn Jenner might still be an asshat doesn’t do it for you, maybe some good ole fashion Tom Brady bashing will.
