Didn’t get a New Year’s kiss? Got home and crashed hard before the ball dropped? Puked all over your grandma’s lovingly knitted doilies because Fireball Whiskey is alcohol abortion? Your night was still better than that of Australian TV personalities, Scott Tweedie and Olivia Phyland.
The pair spent December 31st hosting the “millennial-focused music video show” The Loop, where the final countdown to 2017 was meant to be celebrated with some enthusiastic contest winners. But from the looks of these downcast partiers, you’d think they were being forced to emigrate to some strange foreign land where a living Cheeto promises to rule with an iron fist, Twitter threats, and no sense.
Described as “the most awkward New Year’s Countdown,” this clip is going viral and spurring fan theories that it was all a prank.

See, Tweedie used to host a kids show called Prank Patrol, which apparently featured kids being lured into a big purple van, and ninjas.
Don’t ever change, Australia.
For his part, Tweedie is turning into the spin, comparing his NYE shit show to Mariah’s showstopper turned meme.

Pajiba reached out to Mariah Carey for comment:
H/T to Glenn Dunks.
Kristy Puchko wants to know what Sheebadoopilly is and how it factors into Prank Patrol.
