Well technically he wasn’t a senator at the time, but Silverman did definitely stab current Senator Al Franken. Straight in the head with a pencil.
I’m trying to figure out the difference between a comedian and a regular funny person. Is it the idea to shove a pencil through Franken’s Jew- fro? Probably not. People have been putting pencils in inappropriate places for decades. Is it the ability to, years after the fact, turn a horribly awkward situation into an incredibly funny story? That seems like the sign of a certain level of maturity and a sense of humor, but not necessarily what makes a comedian. No, what I think really separates those of us who like to make people laugh from those who live to make people laugh is this: Silverman started laughing immediately. She stabbed her friend, mentor and co-worker in the head in front of her other co-workers during a meeting, and her first response is to laugh.
It’s amazing and a little scary all at the same time, and I just want Silverman to tell me stories each night until I fall asleep.
