I have very few things to brag about in my life other than that I successfully taught my dog to “hula” (get up on his hind legs and sway side to side while turning in a circle); I own every single Fear Street ever written (or ghostwritten) by R.L. Stine, which I proudly display in a bookcase in my living room (and have a detailed spreadsheet on my Google Drive annotating the condition of each book); and finally, that I watched Veronica Mars during its first run on UPN and then the CW.
I’m sure there are people happier than me that Veronica Mars is coming back (hopefully) in all its former splendid glory on Hulu in 2019—but needless to say, I’m a fan and am ready for new episodes to come our way.
You know what else is a great show that is luckily still on the air? The Good Place.
So it’s great news that the two worlds are colliding in the form of Kirby Howell-Baptiste, maybe better known to you as Simone.
Kirby will be playing a character named Nicole in the new season of Veronica Mars. Nicole “owns and operates the Neptune nightclub favored by spring breakers. When they begin dying, Veronica begins to believe the killer is selecting his victims at the club.”
Does this mean we could possibly have a cross-over between the great-thinkers of each respective show (no—not Chidi and Mac) Jason “BORTLES” Mendoza and Dick Casablancas?!
I mean, it’s not over until it’s over, but I think the likelihood of that happening just went up a bit, don’t you?
In other exciting Veronica Mars reboot casting news, Veronica’s best boyfriend is returning as well.
Detective Leo. Come fight me.
Patton Oswalt will also be joining as “the recurring character of Penn Epner. Penn is on the wrong side of 40 for “best pizza delivery guy in Neptune” to be his claim to fame.” Cool—that’s something I can get behind.
We’re not done yet! Dawnn Lewis is also joining the cast. Lewis is an incredibly successful and prolific stage and screen actor with many credits and awards to her name, but will forever be known to me as Blabberwort the Troll from The 10th Kingdom aka one of the greatest mini-series of all time. She’ll be playing Marcia Langdon, the new police chief of Neptune—I’m pretty sure Marcia was a character in the Veronica Mars books Rob Thomas wrote, but I can’t remember anything about either. They were good, pulpy mysteries, but pretty forgettable.
Let’s get excited, people! So far the casting announcements have been amazing. Which means in the very least, if everything is a disaster, the new Veronica Mars will be a very well-acted train wreck.
That said, I cannot imagine how it could be anything less than amazing…just as long as Piz stays as far away as possible.
