Who was the Funniest on 'Friends'? (It Wasn’t Jennifer Aniston!)

Friends, we’re here to talk about Friends. No, we’re not going to go back and rehash what
on a break means“(a pause not an ending, people!) no, today we’re here to go into something much more hard-hitting, primarily: Who was the funniest character on the show?

Let’s just get it out of the way, because I put it in the title because people love them some Jennifer Aniston—while Rachel Green was funny she wasn’t the funniest. Nope, below is a definitive ranking from least funny to most funny for the core group of Friends.

Monica Geller

Monica is the least funny. It doesn’t mean she doesn’t have her moments of hilarity, but look, someone had to be last here, turkey-head aside.

Chandler Bing

Chandler’s kind of a one-note guy when it comes to being funny in the sense that he’s just sarcastic, which…ok? He gets some good zingers in there but could he BE any more predictable?!

Phoebe Buffay

I have a working theory that Phoebe is a sociopath, which kind of explains her no-f*cks given approach to comedy. Don’t get me wrong, I love Phoebe but there are funnier Friends, even if she did come up with Princess Consuela Banana Hammock

Rachel Green

There she is! Rachel is one of the funnier Friends, but she’s not the funniest, although she consistently had some of the best moments of the show. It’s not that she’s not funny, it’s just that the next two are really funny.

Joey Tribbiani

(Can’t just pick one here)

Anyone who gets excited about meeting their hand twin is someone I want to watch. Sure, could Joey’s dumb hot dude schtick get a little thin from time to time? Of course, but then you have him all decked out in Porsche gear and pretending that bunch of boxes under a tarp is his luxury car and all is forgiven.

Ross Geller

Ross is a truly a terrible human being and yet somehow David Schwimmer made it work for him.

He’s responsible for my favorite (and thus the best) lines in the show:

He was a despicable character and yet no one ever shunned him. Why?

…because he was the funniest person they knew.Duh.

Why else would the rest of the Friends put up with his rage, his selfishness, and overall d*ckishness?

I rest my case.
