If your first thought after watching the very funny trailer for Platonic, which reunites Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne with their Neighbors director Nicholas Stoller — is, “I hope it doesn’t give away all the funny bits,” the good news is: It’s not a movie. It’s a 10-episode comedy series. In the unlikely event that all the funny bits are in here, that would be very bad.

However, Neighbors and Neighbors 2 were two of the funniest comedies of the last decade, back before they stopped making great comedies for theatrical release. I suspect that the Stoller/Rogen/Byrne team can keep it up here, with two childhood friends who reconnect after a falling out and go through their mid-life crises together.

I hope they don’t end up together romantically because 1) that would nullify the title of the series, Platonic, and 2) it would remove the love interest of Rose Byrne’s character, played by Luke Macfarlane, who was easily the best part of Bros.

Watch the trailer.

Platonic streams May 24 on Apple TV+.
