What Happened To Dr. Lauren Bloom (Janet Montgomery) on 'New Amsterdam'?

There’s a lot going on in the world right now. Trump is defending his “both sides” comment, there’s a big battle coming up on Game of Thrones, and potentially the biggest box-office hit of all time is currenting screening in theaters. All of which is to say: The whereabouts of Dr. Laura Bloom on a network medical drama is low priority.

On the other hand, it’s really been bugging me, because Dr. Bloom was a huge part of the ensemble on NBC’s New Amsterdam for much of the season. However, a couple of months ago, the character (played by Janet Montgomery) just … up and disappeared. The character, an E.R. doctor, fell prey to an Adderall addiction, she was shipped off to rehab, and we haven’t seen her since.

So, what the hell happened? Janet Montgomery had a baby is what happened.

I didn’t notice it, because the series was very good at covering it up with loose-fitting clothes, but Montgomery was pregnant all season long on New Amsterdam, and then on March 3rd, she gave birth to Juno Fox.

But don’t worry: Dr. Laura Bloom will be back, and not just in the second season. She’ll appear again before the end of season 1 (which has three episodes left). She wrapped on filming about a week ago.

That’s a wrap on season 1 of New Amsterdam! I became pregnant with Sunday somewhere between the pilot episode and our second episode. She was with me through all the long days and emotional scenes so I have to dedicate my work this season to her. Who knows what she brought to my performance (perhaps in season 2 Bloom will be lacking something?!) i remain utterly grateful for this opportunity where I get to tell incredible stories to millions of people. Thank you to my cast mates Anupam, Freema, Jocko, Tyler, Lisa, Margot, Alejandro, Zabryna and our exceptional leader Ryan Eggold. I am in awe of your performances on set and learn so much from all of you as actors. Thank you to the camera department for some very crafty work at hiding my ever growing stomach and now tasked with making me look like I have actually slept. Thank you to Joe Fay my driver for never telling the ADs that I am consistently 10 minutes late (minimum) and allowing me to sleep in the van. Thank you to all the crew for having smiles on your faces and putting in the hours even though it meant being away from your families for so long. Thank you to all of our directors for guiding my performance while also allowing me freedom to breathe life into Lauren. Thank you to Liz Dean for casting me among this ensemble of great actors. Thank you to all the writers working hard in LA. Thank you Peter Horton, Michael Slovis and David LeClerque for making this show work. Thank you NBC for letting us make this show. LASTLY, but certainly not leastly (not a real word I know) thank you to the formidable David Schulner. Your energy as a writer is only over shadowed by your humanity as a person. You are the reason this show is a huge success and why all of us are happy to come to work each day. Ps I am sure to have forgotten to thank someone but this post is the longest I have ever written and my thumbs have gone numb 👍👍

To my critics and haters, yes I posted this to my story to make all other women who have been pregnant and don’t immediately have flat stomachs bad about themselves. That was my goal, obviously. Also, that baby is hanging with Matthew Weiner (Montgomery was a cast member on his The Romonoffs).

Now, if someone could tell me where the hell Rose Leslie has gone on The Good Fight, because as much fun as Michael Sheen has been this season, his addition does not make up for the subtraction of Leslie.
