In September, Peacock will premiere the three-part limited television series The Continental, the television prequel to John Wick. The series will be set 40 years prior to the events of Wick and center on the hotel in New York City devoted to assassins.

Colin Woodell plays Winston Scott, the young version of Ian McShane’s character, but the series apparently centers on a character named Cormac, played by Mel Gibson, who may be the worst possible person to cast in a franchise whose popularity is owed, in part, to Keanu Reeves. Mel Gibson is the anti-Keanu. Keanu is one of the nicest people in Hollywood. Mel Gibson is not a nice person. I have no idea what Lionsgate was thinking when they decided to cast him.

They were smart enough, however, to avoid putting him in the teaser trailer. Why would you cast Mel Gibson as the lead in your television miniseries and then deliberately avoid putting him in the trailer? It’s nonsensical, in part, because now that’s the story of the teaser: Where’s Mel Gibson?

The Continental arrives on Peacock in September.
