The rumors about Nic Pizzolatto’s behavior over the course of his career have not been flattering . He’s been known to be insufferable and a pretentious douchebag, so much so that friction between the writer and HBO may be the reason why he’s no longer involved with the series (and who knows why he ended up negotiating an early exit from his FX deal).
What is clear is that he’s not helping his reputation for being a dick by dismissing Issa López’s season four of the series, Night Country, which calls back to season one of Pizzolatto’s series so often that it’s basically being called a direct sequel to that season. Understandably, Pizzolatto might feel protective of his season, but I think the professional thing to do when a commenter complains about season four on Instagram is to leave it alone. Certainly not this:

Spoiler: Don’t expect Matthew McConaughey to show up this season.
I guess he’s not a fan of the way this season extends the mythology of the first season.

It’s ironic, isn’t it, that he would leave that comment on a picture calling back to season two of True Detective. “These contracts … signatures all over them.” Talk about stupid.
