Tom Cruise's Spirit Tunnel Walk Is as Cringe As You'd Expect

Tom Cruise’s Digger opens this weekend. The Alejandro González Iñárritu is getting, so far, wildly divisive reviews, though I would say that most of them lean toward, “What the hell was Tom Cruise thinking?” The word “misfire” gets bandied around a lot. I’m a sucker for a train wreck, so I’m mostly intrigued. I kind of want to see Tom Cruise fall on his face.

If his Spirit Tunnel Walk on The Jennifer Hudson Show is any indication, it might be the kind of performance that makes you want to watch from behind your hands. Three seconds in, and I needed to turn my head. I just feel vaguely embarrassed for everyone involved. Cruise channels Digger and Risky Business and his faux humbleness, and watching it just made me want to crawl in a hole.

I appreciate the promotional hustle, but yikes.
