Being Short Doesn't Make Up for How Bad 'Vanished' Is

This one is going to be exceptionally easy, and there’s a reason Prime Video dumped this one on MGM+. It’s really bad. But at least it’s short. Spoilers.

Vanished stars Kaley Cuoco as Alice Monroe and Sam Claflin as Tom. They’ve been together for four years. She’s an archaeologist. He’s some sort of humanitarian. They bounce around Europe and the Middle East in their respective jobs. After Alice lands a teaching position in New Jersey, Tom agrees to move to the States with her, and the two take a trip to France to celebrate. En route, Tom disappears from the train.

Alice spends the better part of three episodes trying to find him, partnering with an independent journalist, Hélène (Karin Viard). Their investigation ultimately leads them to a human trafficking ring, which Alice and Hélène initially believe Tom is part of. In fact, when Alice finally tracks down Tom, he’s with another woman, doesn’t act like himself, and basically tells her to go away.

That’s because he was trying to protect her. In the end, there’s a lot of running and chasing, a few fight sequences, Alice and Hélène are kidnapped by the traffickers and nearly killed, but ultimately Tom saves them. That’s because Tom was working undercover for Interpol the whole time, but couldn’t tell Alice. Alice helps him take down the traffickers.

Tom confesses everything, apologizes vociferously to Alice, and tells her that he’s ready to quit and move to Jersey with her. The two of them reconcile, have a passionate night of sex, and Tom wakes up the next morning to find a note that says, “At least I had the decency to leave a note.” Alice left. The end. Terrible show. Don’t bother.
