This week brought both bad news and good news to the fandoms for Beyoncé and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The bad news is that Beyoncé’s planned announcement for January 14th— to reveal a Cowboy Carter tour, or new additions to the Ivy Park clothing line, or new products for her Cécred hair care brand— was postponed for very understandable reasons, leaving the Beyhive to wait a little longer to find out what Mrs. Knowles-Carter was going to share with us. The good news is that the highly anticipated trailer for the Disney Plus series Daredevil: Born Again premiered earlier this morning, hence why a lot of MCU fans are now dancing in celebration like Ted Lasso.

The first three seasons of Daredevil originally aired on Netflix before its cancellation (along with every other Marvel series that aired on the streaming service), and when we last saw the Man Without Fear on that series, he finally succeeded in taking down Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, and took steps in putting his professional life back together again with his best friends ‘Foggy’ Nelson and Karen Page, as the three of them agreed to form the law firm Nelson, Murdock, and Page together. Matt’s newest archnemesis, former FBI agent Benjamin Poindexter, a.k.a. Bullseye, was left paralyzed after his confrontation with both Daredevil and Kingpin, but was last seen undergoing experimental surgery to repair his spine. (Will that spinal surgery involve the usage of adamantium, which is apparently going to be introduced in Captain America: Brave New World? That remains to be seen.)

Since then, Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin have made brief but memorable appearances on both Single Female Lawyer She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Hawkeye, and Echo. I loved his appearance on She-Hulk, and Charlie Cox’s chemistry with Tatiana Maslany, but there were some fans who were not at all happy with what they saw as an overly comedic version of Daredevil in that episode, and even found it outright disrespectful for him to be seen doing the Walk of Shame after sleeping with Jennifer Walters. Daredevil’s appearance on Echo, however, which showed him in a long and brutal fight sequence against Maya Lopez, seemed to get a much better reception, and fans felt that they were getting back the version of Daredevil they know and love.

As for Kingpin’s appearances on Hawkeye and Echo? It was great to see the character onscreen again, but those appearances also left some critics and viewers feeling very disappointed with what they got and how he was portrayed on Disney Plus compared to Netflix. (The fact that Kingpin appeared on Hawkeye dressed like this? It really didn’t help much.)

If there were any questions as to whether Daredevil: Born Again would have the same level of violence, bloodshed, and intense subject matter as the Netflix version? The broken limbs, carnage, screams of rage from both Daredevil and Kingpin, Matt hooking up with yet another beautiful woman (who unfortunately doesn’t seem to be Jennifer Walters), and the return of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, are all signs that point to ‘yes.’

Oh, and this plotline that involves Wilson Fisk as Mayor of New York? I’d still take him over Eric f-cking Adams.
