This week on the Podjiba podcast, Dan Hamamura made a surprising confession: Band of Brothers is his comfort television. It took some explaining, but I get it: It’s not that he likes to watch soldiers get their legs blown off; it’s that the series is character-driven. It’s a lot of talking.
Band of Brothers came from Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, and both are producing Masters of the Air, another miniseries that, in this case, centers on members of the Air Force during World War II. I’m not sure why World War II remains such a resilient, fertile ground for books, movies, and television, but I’m happy when anything reminds us that, yes, the Holocaust did exist, and we fought an entire World War over it. (Some of the youths are increasingly skeptical, and a few of them even believe that the existence of the Holocaust in history books is Zionist propaganda).
But that’s not the subject of this post. We’re here to watch the trailer for Masters of the Air starring two of the best young actors in the business, Austin Butler (Elvis) and Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of InisherinMasters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the War Against Nazi Germany. Masters of the Air begins airing on Apple TV+ in January.
