The Last 30 Years of American History As Seen Through 'The Daily Show'

Last night was the 30th anniversary episode of The Daily Show. They didn’t exactly pull out all the stops with reunions with old cast members or even an interview with the original host of TDS, Craig Kilborn. It was mostly a regular episode: Desi Lydic made fun of the Administration’s obsession with TikTok, and there was an interview with Elliot Page (The Odyssey).

But the episode did include a fun 16-minute look back at the last 30 years through some clip-show highlights. There are some funny moments, some very poignant ones, and a lot of familiar faces who have been a part of the show for the last three decades. But mostly, it feels like a history lesson of America since 1996. It’s a lot to take in, if only as a reminder of what most of us (at least those over the age of 30) have lived through for the last 30 years.
