‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4 Trailer Overflows With Drama

Fans of the opera, quips, and elaborate hats, rejoice! A new season of The Gilded Age approaches. The teaser trailer for the fourth season just dropped and I’m snapping up every delicious detail. Let your eyes feast:

All the show’s hallmarks are there: dramatic staircase conversations, hats, gloves, and gowns to gag us all, Mamie Fish being iconic, Bertha exchanging icy courtesies with her nemeses, Agnes throwing shade at God, and Peggy being amazing. What else could a friend of the Met ask for?

The third season marked a big turning point for the series. With some notable fumbles aside, The Gilded Age finally flowered into the period soap opera it was meant to be. It remains to be seen how season four will build on this growth, but the trailer leaves some tasty hints. Peggy may be happily married but her mother-in-law Elizabeth is still around to make trouble. Everyone’s favorite hot supervillain couple, Bertha and George, are working out their schism in private and there seems to be a potential reconciliation. The widow Winterton, née Turner, is on a mission to take down the Russells, and maybe all of high society. Agnes and Ada are still sniping at each other about money, now in light of a dinner for the President. Everyone’s up to something!

What can we expect from season four? I’ve got a few predictions myself. I’m predicting that Bertha and George work it out by the end of the season because they were made to be monsters together; that Oscar very nearly enters a marriage of convenience with Turner, but stops short to pursue a new boyfriend; that Marian and Larry will have a love story so bland that we’ll forget they’re there; that Armstrong will remain a two-dimensional crank, and that Peggy’s mom Dorothy will sing because why else have we cast Audra McDonald if she’s not going to ensorcell us with her voice? We can also expect a couple new faces this season, like Jim Gaffigan as President Grover Cleveland, and Elizabeth Marvel and Dennis Haysbert as original characters.
