As much as 2020 sucked as a year, it provided some great entertainment. One of my favorites was Kaley Cuoco’s surprise HBO Max hit, The Flight Attendant. The first season told the story of alcoholic party girl Cassie Bowden, an international flight attendant caught in a murder mystery after she wakes from a blackout drunk next to a dead body. Cassie spent 8 episodes hiding her involvement as she worked to prove her innocence. As the season went on, the story expanded to include her coworkers, spies, and… money laundering? Gunrunning? I don’t remember. It’s been a long two years. The important thing is The Flight Attendant is back!

Cassie’s trying to get her shit together while working undercover for the authorities. Coworker Megan Briscoe (Rosie Perez) looks under pressure - understandable, given her treasonous activities in season 1. BFF Ani (Zosia Mamet) is still helping Cassie get by, despite the favors she now owes some terrible people. We don’t get much of the plot but it seems they’re leaning heavily into the spy shenanigans. Along with the John le Carré reference, Cassie’s reading D’entre les morts, aka The Living and the Dead, a 1954 mystery novel on which Alfred Hitchcock based his 1958 film Vertigo. And she’s hallucinating again! That’s always fun.

Season 2 of The Flight Attendant premieres on HBO Max April 21. It gives us (me) plenty of time to rewatch the 8-episode first season and figure out exactly what happened before getting confused all over again.
