The 10 Best Moments in this Week's Episode of 'The Pitt'

This is not our typical format for The Pitt, but there were just so many remarkable moments in this week’s episode that I had to catalog them in no particular order (except for number one, obviously).

10. Dr. Robby telling Mel that she’s one of the best med students he’s ever had is another reminder of why he’s so good at running an E.R.: inspiring confidence at exactly the right moments while also always keeping his doctors on their toes.

9. Likewise, after Dr. Santos’s gossip dump on Whittaker (woah! He’s been taking care of the farm girl and her baby after the death of her husband), and Santos saying, “He’s such a huckleberry,” only for Dr. Robby to respond, “Yeah, but he’s our ***ing huckleberry,” was another moment that demonstrates just how invested Robby is in the doctors at The Pitt. That connection was also evident in the simple banter between Robby and Santos, who have quietly bonded over their reservations about Langdon and their skepticism of Dr. Al-Hashimi.

8. Speaking of Dr. Santos: her quieting the baby by singing the infant a lullaby? Touching as hell, and it put Isa Briones’ voice to good use. Lady can sing! Hopefully, it will quiet the Dr. Santos critics.

7. Also, re: Dr. Santos? The brief but meaningful shot of her bare legs, revealing the scars from the cuts she once inflicted upon herself. There’s always more to these characters beneath the surface, and Santos has clearly been through the trauma wringer.

6. The quiet, unspoken reactions of all the women who encountered Ilana, the woman who had been sexually assaulted, and especially Nurse Dana’s shaking hands (and shout-out to the two real Pittsburgh organizations referenced in the episode that provide care for survivors, PAAR (Pittsburgh Action Against Rape) and North Side Christian Health Center). Just Katherine LaNasa’s performance every week, but especially in this episode. She’ll be stacking Emmys for years.

5. The way the series has been quietly building toward the cyberattack ransom with all of the references to AI, but also how it gradually let us (and the staff) warm to Dr. Al-Hashimi and sympathize with her after she phoned her own doctor, only to pull the rug out from beneath us when we learned that the administration basically went over Robby to consult with Al-Hashimi about shutting down the computer network. There’s a lot to like about Dr. Al-Hashimi, but she’s also the admin’s yes-man.

4. Dr. Langdon finally being able to offer Dr. Robby his amends over the sound of a helicopter, only for Dr. Robby to tell him that he’s glad Langdon is getting the help he needs, but that he’s not sure he can trust him in his E.R. Again, this demonstrates not only how invested Robby is in his doctors, but how quickly he’ll turn on them when they betray his trust.

3. Langdon is clearly devastated by what Robby says to him, but he’s also a good mentor, not just in the way he shows, by example, how to get back up, follow the steps, and earn trust, but in how he’s mentored other doctors like Mel, and how, in last night’s episode, he looks out for the new nurse, Emma. Robby may define him by his addiction, but Langdon is clearly trying not to be defined by it.

2. The return of Dr. Abbot, who not only illustrates what a bad ass he is (a SWAT medic who brushes off a bullet graze), but apparently how hot he is without a shirt on. I don’t really get the Mohan/Abbot shippers (Supriya Ganesh is 28, and Shawn Hatosy has been around forever (he’s 50)), but I appreciate that they’re giving another Southland star his due. Plus, I can’t count the number of social media posts saying that Dr. Abbot telling Mohan he’d pay to send medical supplies to the diabetes patient was the hottest thing they’d ever seen in two seasons of The Pitt.

1. Dr. Robby’s double take as he walks by and sees Mohan working on Dr. Abbot’s bullet graze. The shoe squeak! OUTSTANDING.
