Six 'Task' Actors Who Are Unrecognizable Out of Context

Task wrapped its final episode this week, and while it delivered on the brutal ending we predicted after the pilot, it was also surprisingly … kind. There was also a nice karmic balance to the fates of most of the characters except for poor Lizzie, who had to be sacrificed so that Grasso could be redeemed (ish).

But we’re not here to talk about the finale. We’re here to talk about where we have seen several of these actors before, and despite that, not recognizing them out of context on Task. Take Maeve, for instance. She’s played by Emilia Jones. She looked familiar, but I didn’t remember where I’d seen her until I saw an article about no one recognized her from her break-out role, Coda. That mullet did a lot of work.

Likewise, I knew I’d seen Fabien Frankel — who played Grasso — somewhere before, but I never would have guessed that the somewhere I’d seen him before was on House of Dragon, where he played Ser Criston Cole. Weird.

Lilly Kaye only appeared in the season finale as Grasso’s sister, and I did recognize her, but it took me a few minutes to place her. She played Zero in Owen Wilson’s golf comedy, Stick (she also played that mafia guy’s daughter in Bryan Cranston’s Your Honor).

Owen Teague, who played the short-lived Peaches in the opening episode, has had leading roles in The Stand, Mrs. Fletcher, and a memorable recurring role in Bloodline (fittingly, he played the young version of a Ben Mendelsohn character). He’s probably most recognizable, however, as Patrick Hockstetter in the It movies.

Then there is Raúl Castillo, who played Robbie’s best friend, Cliff. The characters actually look the same, but he had a completely different vibe in Task as the one he had in Looking. It’s calling acting!

Finally, most people recognize Tom Pelphrey from his various roles in Banshee or Ozark, but it took me a while to remember him as the super creepy lawyer in that Jeff Daniels’ Netflix series Man in Full (terrible show, but Pelphrey was great). Sometimes, the beard makes the man. One guy you wanna hug. The other guy you wanna get a restraining order against.
