Best Comedy of the Year, So FarEnglish Teacher, which hilariously and empathetically mocks this generation of nu-woke high-school kids while remaining sensitive to their insecurities. (FX, currently airing weekly)

The Best Show People Just DiscoveredFrom, a creepy horror series starring Harold Perrineau that can best be described as Lost crossed with a Stephen King novel. (The first two seasons are on Prime Video; the third season begins on September 22nd on MGM+)

The Best Show Still Mostly Under the RadarDeadloch, the Australian black comedy crime mystery television series that works both as a parody of murder detective series and as a brilliantly executed murder detective series. (The first season is on Prime Video; the second season is currently in production).

The Most Watched Cancelled SeriesEvil, which is basically the horror-comedy version of The X-Files, only it explores faith vs. science, commingled with the brilliant political humor of Robert and Michelle King and the sexiness of Katja Herbers and Mike Colter. (Available on Netflix and Paramount+)

The Best Drama You Keep Telling Yourself You Should WatchPachinko, and you really should listen to yourself. The opening season of the Min Jin Lee novel was a remarkable slow burn, but the second season kicks it up a notch — the second episode of season two is one of the five best episodes of 2024. (The second season is airing weekly on Apple TV+)

The Best Show You Don’t Watch But Keep Hearing AboutIndustry felt like Billions crossed with Euphoria in its first season — a sort of Succession, Jr. — but it’s really established its own identity here in its third season and very much worth catching up on. (The third season is airing weekly on HBO)

The Best Comedy You Only Seem to Hear About on PajibaColin from Accounts is an Australian comedy for people who love Catastrophe, You’re the Worst, and Trying. (The first season is available on Paramount+; the second season premieres on September 26th).
