The Big Bang Theory universe is the cockroach* of network television. After 12 seasons of the original series and seven seasons of Young Sheldon, CBS is launching a prequel to the prequel, this one focused on Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) as they navigate the challenges of being a new parent. CBS has ordered it straight to series because, God forbid, we go a year without Chuck Lorre earning another mint.

(*I recently learned from PJ Vogt’s podcast that suggesting cockroaches will live long after the rest of us is outdated, as America’s cockroach problem — which peaked in the ’80s — has all but disappeared, thanks to … Combat, those little black discs.)

There are a couple more pick-ups in the works: Lionsgate is shopping around a Twilight animated series, and yet another John Wick television series. I think that Twilight is having a moment these days because nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

In cancellation news, Netflix has already denied a second season to The Brothers Sun, which was a wildly entertaining series, and I am heartbroken to lose it, although not as heartbroken as Michelle Yeoh. How dare Netflix break Michelle Yeoh’s heart!

Katja Herbers, meanwhile, is “sad” that Paramount+ has pulled the plug on Evil. Me too! The upcoming fourth season will be its last, but the good news is, they’ve added four more episodes so the show will get an opportunity to wrap up. I love that weird little show, and I’m honestly surprised it has run as long as it has. The final season, by the way, will arrive in May.

I have watched neither Money Heist nor its spin-off, Berlin, but I would like to someday. There will be more to watch as Netflix has picked up Berlin for a second season.

PBS’s Masterpiece has picked up All Seasons Great and Small for two more seasons, the fifth and sixth of the series. CBS has given The Young and the Restless four more seasons, which will bring it through its 55th season. Freevee, meanwhile, has announced that the third season of Alex Rider will be its last.

Finally, I genuinely did not know that Joel McHale hosted a cooking show, Crime Scene Kitchen, much less that it’s been on for two seasons. It’s now been picked up for a third.
