The networks have made most of their fall decisions and are even putting together their fall schedules now (more on that momentarily), so there are fewer renewals and cancellations. However, people are surprisingly upset by the cancellation of NCIS: Hawai’i. I assume that it must have been popular with the NCIS crowd, and it was the only one of the CBS procedurals that was female-led.

What’s interesting is that two of the series that CBS canceled in recent weeks, So Help Me Todd and NCIS: Hawai’i, likely would have been renewed on any other network with the same ratings. They did great numbers, but everything on the CBS schedule is doing great numbers. The network had to make room for series that had already been given the green light for the fall, including a Matlock reboot led by Kathy Bates; a series about Sherlock’s companion, Dr. Watson, led by Morris Chestnut; Poppa’s House a sitcom starring Damon Wayans and his son, Damon Wayans, Jr.; and, uh, NCIS: Origins, an NCIS prequel.

In fact, CBS has already released its fall schedule. I’m upset to find that The Amazing Race is not on it — it’s been pushed to midseason to make room for a new reality competition series called The Summit. It’s based on an Australian series, and having read about it, I am intrigued. In the Australian version, several contestants have 14 days to climb to the peak of a mountain. Each carries enough money for a combined $1 million. However, if a climber drops out, the prize money is reduced. Some people quit. Some people are voted out. Some people are eliminated for being too slow. The prize money is only awarded if at least one team makes it to the top of the mountain in the allotted 14 days. If multiple teams make it to the stop, the eliminated players decide how the money is split between them. That sounds like it would make for an interesting dynamic, as the players are competing against each other but also need to work together.

One more note about CBS: Blue Bloods will return in the fall to air the second half of its 14th season. The show has otherwise been canceled and will not return for a 15th season.

For the record, CBS has also ordered for the 2025-26 season a Fire Country spinoff called Sheriff Country. I won’t watch it, but Morena Baccarin will lead it, and I appreciate that she is getting a paycheck.

On ABC, The Conners won’t return for an 8th season. However, it has been renewed for an abbreviated seventh season. There is no word yet on how many episodes it will be.

Meanwhile, over on NBC, they brought back Law & Order and SVU, but they’re moving Law and Order: Organized Crime over to Peacock. The show will be entering its fifth season and, I think, its fifth showrunner. That show is a mess.

How long has it been since Paramount+ aired an episode of a Taylor Sheridan series? It must have been Bass Reeves, which last aired in December 2023. It’s unusual when Paramount isn’t airing at least one Sheridan series. They’re currently shooting Landman, and the cast is almost too good to ignore: Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, and Jon Hamm in a recurring role. Andy Garcia was added to the cast this week. My ‘Dad TV’ sensors are going apeshit right now.

We have some news about the final season of Cobra Kai. It will be 15 episodes, split into three parts, beginning on July 18th and ending in 2025. The new Karate Kid movie, meanwhile, will be shifted back six months to give viewers more time to finish Cobra Kai. That movie will star Ralph Machio from the original Karate Kid movie and Jackie Chan from the Karate Kid remake. Ming-Na Wen and Joshua Jackson also star. Sure, why not?

Likewise, the fourth season of Emily in Paris will be split into two parts. The first will premiere in August.

Finally, here’s another reminder that We Are Lady Parts Season 2 premieres May 30 on Peacock. Here’s the trailer:
