NBC's "The Munsters" Remake Now Officially Too Awesome to Ignore

The idea that someone might remake “The Munsters” — a kitschy, black-and-white relatively short-lived series from back in the 60s — seems preposterous today. How would that work? But then again, what if that someone were Bryan Fuller, the guy behind Pushing Daises and Wonderfalls, a guy who could bring a sort of magical whimsy to a quirky monster family? Let’s also say that it’s expected to be a darker, edgier version of “The Munsters” that explores the origins of Herman and Lilly, and how it is they came to settle at 1313 Mockingbird Lane.

Intriguing, but I’m not sold.

Well, how about casting Jerry O’Connell — the fat kid from Stand By Me — as Herman Munster?

Nope. That’s a step backwards. Now you’re actually losing me.

OK. OK! How about this: Eddie Izzard as Grandpa Munster?

Oh, well. Now you’re talking. I’m not quite sold on the idea, but I’m listening again.

OK, then. How about this: Portia de Rossi as Lily Munster?

Boom! I’m in.

Oh, wait? What network did you say it was on?
