The first time I saw Michelle Yeoh was in Tomorrow Never Dies. It was also the first time I saw a female character in those films be just as skilled as James Bond (and in real life, much more so). Her role in Tomorrow Never Dies was her first in a Hollywood movie. Last night, she won her first Oscar for Everything Everywhere All At Once! Are you wondering what her other firsts were? Well, wonder no longer!
Michelle Yeoh stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to discuss her firsts. They ask her who she first called after she got her Oscar nomination (which she rightfully won)! She talks about her first stunt, going backward through a plate glass window! Michelle also discusses the things she likes to eat in Malaysia. Not only do I want to eat all of it, but I was also fond of the meal schedule she described.
Consider this a post-Oscar Michelle Yeoh appreciation post. If you are like me, you cried at every win EEAaO received last night. That movie makes me emotional. In turn, the success of the people involved does the same. They all carry the message of the film (finding something to love in everything) with them at all times. They’re all beautiful, and I’m so thrilled that such an emotionally rich and weird film is getting recognition.
Michelle Yeoh has an impressive career by any standards. The way she carries herself, so open and kind and generous, makes it unmatchable. Today, we celebrate her. From her first job to her first Oscar. Congratulations, Michelle!
