For the fifth year in a row, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver has won an Emmy award in the Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series category. In a digital ceremony, Oliver accepted the award from home which has also doubled as his current filming location.
He did not have an award handy, so instead he used one of his “son’s creepy toys.”
Upon winning the award, Oliver thanked his writing staff, especially for working hard during a year that has been “particularly challenging.” The host continued by saying “I’d like to thank the Emmys for not holding the Emmys in person this year because of the, you know, thing. Thank you, we will cherish it forever.”
The win comes hot on the heels of Last Week Tonight being renewed at HBO. It will now be on air at least until 2023. You can watch the whole ceremony in the tweet below.
