Last night’s This Is Us operated on three levels: YAY!, SOB, and LOL. Mostly those first two.
SOB for sick, scared little kids. This is my Kryptonite.

SOB for Gerald McRaney talking about death.
![]()
SOB for William having even more sadness in his story, damn.
![]()
YAY! for him and Denis O’Hare (YAY! for Denis O’Hare!) rekindling their relationship.
![]()
YAY! for everyone being super chill about it, especially perfect child Tess who’s all “Grandpa’s gay or at least bi.” YAY! for bi visibility!
![]()
SOB for tiny baby Kevin refusing to let go of his sister as they wheel her back to surgery.
![]()
SOB for baby Randall buying Gerald McRaney a snowglobe.
![]()
SOB for suicidal Jimmi Simpson, though, real talk, this probably could have been cut.
![]()
YAY! for Randall saving suicidal Jimmi Simpson, even though, real talk, it probably could have been cut. That said, I think it was probably a red herring dramatic moment so we don’t see the end coming.
![]()
YAY! for Toby’s triumphant return to declare his love for Kate!
![]()
YAY! for not-dead Gerald McRaney!
![]()
YAY! for Kevin’s burgeoning relationship with precious Sloane (who yes indeed is Lily from the AT&T commercials) and not actual monsterhuman Olivia who is the worst.
![]()
SOBYAY! for everyone being happy and in love and singing and being generally adorable.
![]()
SOBSOBSOBSOBSOBBBBBBBBB for Toby who has a goddamn heart attack in the last few seconds of the episode. #PRAYFORTOBY

LOL for Miguel getting the lights to work. Oh Miguel, you cinnamon roll.
