Jon Stewart Will Continue as Host of 'The Daily Show' for Another Year

Though Jon Stewart’s friend and former The Daily Show colleague Stephen Colbert had his show canceled, and though the parent company behind both their shows is currently gutting CBS News under its new leader, Bari Weiss, Stewart will nevertheless soldier on as Monday host of The Daily Show for another year.

As first reported by Bill Carter at Late Nighter, Stewart has reached an agreement with Comedy Central and its parent company, Paramount Skydance, to continue in his current role on The Daily Show at least through the 2026 midterms.

I can only assume that for Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison, this is purely a business move. Ratings are up on The Daily Show this year (a rarity in late night), and the optics would look terrible if Ellison ousted Stewart so soon after Colbert — not to mention that he’s also lost Taylor Sheridan.

It’s great news for The Daily Show, if only because it brings in more viewers who stick around during the week to watch Jordan Klepper, Desi Lydic, Michael Kosta, Ronny Chieng, and Josh Johnson — the latter of whom may ultimately become the next face of the series.

Stewart will presumably also continue his weekly podcast, The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart.
