Roy Wood Jr. is the current host of The Daily Show. He’s doing a bang-up job. The stand-up comedian and performer is well suited for the role and is proving as much. I think the other correspondents are just as well qualified, but that will be a discussion in the coming weeks. Today, it’s all Roy. During his stint as host, Roy had TFG’s arraignment dropped in his lap. This allowed him to bring in Jordan Klepper, who was downtown for the arraignment. Then, Wood Jr. brought out the big guns (no offense, Jordan).

Clad in Jedi robes and a haircut that falls somewhere between “crazed old man” and “crazed old man who wants to look young,” Jon Stewart returned to The Daily Show studio! I assume that Jon, like most of us, was trying to decide how much attention to pay to the situation yesterday. Then, like the rest of us, before he knew it, the whole day was gone. He doesn’t even get to talk about the arraignment. He spends most of his time trying to joke with Roy through raucous applause.

Roy gets to talk about the arraignment. He does an impeccable job, as well. Wood Jr. conveys both the excitement and the frustration of the arraignment. On the one hand, TFG is facing possible consequences in a very public manner. On the other hand, this may not amount to anything. Also, as Roy points out, there were no handcuffs. There is no mugshot. TFG doesn’t even have to be back in court until December. Not only has he barely been inconvenienced, but the prick has also raised $7 million thanks to this circus.

Roy Wood Jr. did exactly what was needed in this still-developing situation. Jon Stewart was also there. Albeit in a very supportive role! Getting the blessing of the show’s most notable host is no small feat. While everything is (maybe) falling apart for TFG, things are (maybe) looking up for Roy Wood Jr. That’s a tradeoff I can live with.
