Star Wars is expanding into live-action TV, and Disney have brought Jon Favreau on board to write and executive produce the series. It will be developed exclusively for Disney’s upcoming streaming service, so look out for those fun wars with Netflix. No details have been revealed about the show. We’ve no idea which part of the vast universe of this saga it will take part in, although there is certainly plenty of ground to cover.
Favreau has done very well for Disney: While his Iron Man films weren’t made under the Disney banner at the time — this was pre-acquisition — he helped to create the template that’s become a multi-billion dollar success. His remake of The Jungle Book surpassed expectations both critically and commercially, and coming soon is his version of The Lion King. We need to stop calling that film ‘live-action’ already. Unless it features Beyonce in a leotard running across the African plains like it’s an Andrew Lloyd Webber production, it’s not live-action!
Disney’s streaming service is expected to launch at the end of next year. Will you be subscribing to it or will you just accept its place in your home once Disney take over literally everything?
Also hey, Disney, how about hiring some women to direct this show? Sound good to you? I can recommend a few names!
