I remember last year, reading a couple of reviews in advance of the release of the zombie comedy, Santa Clarita Diet suggesting that the show was fairly mediocre and uninspired. I refused to believe the reviews, however, because it starred Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore.

And then I watched it. The reviews were right. It’s a fairly average show, but the cast is so good and the episodes short and light enough that it’s nevertheless a show easy to binge and enjoy. Interestingly, though, it wasn’t Olyphant and Barrymore who made it as good as it was (although they are good), nor was it the roster of cameos (those were good, too). It was mostly the teenagers, Liv Hewson and Skyler Gisondo. They were the best parts of the series.

The season two trailer? Well, it offers more of the same: It looks like a fun show that will ultimately settle for a mediocre and quick binge on a Saturday night. So, basically, it’s the Hootie and the Blowfish of comedies. I’m OK with that.

Santa Clarita Diet returns on March 23rd.
