New Dads are a mess (I mean, it’s science), and we’re always a little weepy in those first few years, especially if we’re dealing with high-risk factors. Letterman was the same way — he was basically a different guy after Harry came along.
Kimmel, at least, is channeling his empathy for good causes, like health care for children , and now he’s tearfully taking Donald Trump, the GOP, and the NRA to task “literally doing nothing” in the wake of one mass shooting after another. It’s impossible not to think of your own kids when you think about mass shootings in schools, which makes it so incredibly bizarre that Republicans — the party of family values (ha!) — can’t seem to muster any sympathy for the kids who are killed, who can’t offer anything other than empty prayers and platitudes along with pleas not to politicize the issue.
I mean: How incredibly unfeeling can these guys be? A lot of these guys were shot at during a baseball game last year, and they still see no need for gun reform. What do we have to do to convince them that the lives of our children are more important than campaign contributions?
I just don’t understand these people. Jimmy Kimmel doesn’t, either.
