Bob Saget passed away on Sunday at the age of 65. The outpouring of condolences and the sharing of good memories were instantaneous. Scour the depths of Twitter, and you won’t find a bad word said about the comedian. That’s saying something. The man was loved and respected and appreciated by, it seems, anyone who crossed his path. As someone who very briefly interacted with him myself, I can tell you that all the good things you are hearing are true. However, Jimmy Kimmel has a better perspective.
On Monday night, before his show kicked off, Jimmy took a few minutes to talk about his friend Bob Saget. Through tears, he discussed how wonderful and supportive Saget was. It is a genuine, heartbreaking tribute. With something that can feel so superficial as late-night talk shows, seeing someone speak this sincerely is a welcome shock. The only part not shocking is that Jimmy has the same feelings toward Bob Saget that everyone else who knew him does.
Hug someone close to you. Call that person you haven’t talked to in a while and have been meaning to reach out to. Life is too short, and we are not promised tomorrow. Live. If you can, live your life like you want to be remembered the same way Bob Saget is. Be kind, generous, thoughtful, and loving. Enrich people’s lives while you’re here, and you’ll still be doing it when you move on.
