Deadline is reporting that Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie Greene on The Walking Dead, is currently entertaining offers for pilot season, and that several networks are making offers.

This, by itself, does not mean that Cohan will be leaving The Walking Dead. According to the report, Cohan was seeking a bigger contract from AMC, and asked that she be paid along the lines of Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus. That was apparently rejected, and AMC counter-offered with a modest bump in her salary. Cohan rejected that offer, and negotiations have not picked up again.

Cohan, by making herself available for the upcoming pilot season, may be using other offers as bargaining chips (smart), although if Cohan were to receive a huge salary increase on a promising series, she could bail on The Walking Dead for a better offer.

Season eight has already ended production, so if Cohan bails on the series, her character most likely wouldn’t be killed off until next season. The character of Maggie Greene is still alive in The Walking Dead comics, so her loss — in addition to the expected loss of Chandler Riggs — could throw a major wrench in the expected trajectory of the series.
