Audiences reluctant to tune into new shows for fear that they will be canceled need not worry about Dan Harmon’s forthcoming Krapopolis. The animated series was supposed to debut after Thanksgiving, but was pushed until May, where it was supposed to premiere with four episodes. It’s been delayed again, and will not debut until the 2023-24 season.

Typically, when a series is delayed that often, it means the network has little faith in it. That’s not the case for Krapopolis, which was delayed and given a third season renewal months before a single episode has aired. The reason for the delay? They have tremendous faith in the series and they want to launch it during football season, which gives them more opportunities to promote it.

The series must be great if the network has this much confidence. The premise is compelling: Set in mythical ancient Greece, Krapopolis tells the story of a “dysfunctional family of humans, gods, and monsters that try their hand at running the world’s first cities - without trying to kill each other, that is.” The voice cast is impressive: Hannah Waddingham, Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, Pam Murphy, and Duncan Trussell, plus guest stars like Susan Sarandon, Will Forte, Jane Lynch, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Dave Franco.

Ayoade voices Tyrannis, the mortal son of a goddess. He’s the benevolent King of Krapopolis, trying to make do in a city that lives up to its name. Waddingham plays Deliria, Tyrannis’ mother, goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. Within her extended Olympian family - forged in patricide and infidelity - she’s known as the trashy one. Berry is Shlub, Tyrannis’ father, a mantitaur - half centaur (horse + human), half manticore (lion + human + scorpion). He is oversexed and underemployed, claims to be an artist and has literally never paid for anything, in any sense of that word, for his entire life. Murphy voices Stupendous, Tyrannis’ half-sister, daughter of Deliria and a cyclops. Trussell plays Hippocampus, Tyrannis’ half-brother, offspring of Shlub and a mermaid, and, obviously, a hot mess, biologically speaking.

Harmon will presumably continue to work on Rick and Morty (sans Justin Roiland) as he charts the next three seasons of Krapopolis, and that Community movie is in the works for Peacock, as well.
