I read a lot, but my list of five-star books over the last couple of years is small: The Correspondent by Virginia Evans, My Friends by my current favorite novelist Fredrik Backman, Buckeye by Patrick Ryan, The Bright Years by Sarah Damoff, Same As It Ever Was by Clare Lombardo, All of the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker, Long Island Compromise by Taffy Brodesser-Akner, I Hope This Finds You Well by Natalie Sue, Home of the American Circus by Alison Larkin, and … Margo’s Got Money Trouble by Rufi Thorpe.

That’s ten novels out of the last 100 I’ve read, although even among those ten, I’d put All of the Colors of the Dark and Margo’s Got Money Trouble above the rest. The latter is an exceptional novel about a twenty-something woman, Margo, who drops out of college after she’s impregnated by her married English professor. As a single mom facing financial hardship, she turns to OnlyFans to make a living. Along the way, she reconnects with her estranged father, a retired professional wrestler whose career offers Margo a roadmap for her own. He’s battling addiction; she’s trying to build a better life for her child while navigating a strained relationship with her judgmental mother, a former Hooters waitress who marries a religious nut and absorbs his personality.

Apple TV has smartly turned that into a television series, and if it’s half as good as the book, it may be one of the best of 2026. They’ve certainly put together a phenomenal cast: Elle Fanning (returning to TV for the first time since The Great) will play Margo; Nick Offerman will play her father; and Michelle freakin’ Pfeiffer is set to play her mother. You can throw in Greg Kinnear and Nicole Kidman on top of that.

Margo’s Got Money Trouble won’t hit Apple TV until April (the perfect time for Emmy voters), but the series, adapted from Rufi Thorpe’s novel by David E. Kelley, has released the first photos just to tease viewers with the incredible cast. Here’s a look:
