Dune is coming out on March 1st and features a number of the most popular young stars of the moment: Austin Butler, Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh, in addition to an SNL favorite, Christopher Walken, and several other actors perfectly capable of hosting the show: Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson.
But nope: They have asked Shane Gillis to host. The same Shane Gillis the show fired in 2019 for racist and offensive comments he has made in his stand-up. The racist and offensive language has not changed, but Gillis has since rebranded himself as one of those canceled comedians who go on Joe Rogan’s podcast to complain about being canceled in front of the biggest podcast audience on the Internet. And then he hosts SNL.
Is it because Shane Gillis is particularly funny? It is not. It’s because there’s been a backlash to the backlash while many folks have still not come around to the fact that these canceled, anti-woke comedians are boring, one-note hacks whose entire persona is built around bullying marginalized communities while claiming to be the victim. See also: Dave Chapelle, who was seen on stage after last week’s SNL for no other reason than to upset Bowen Yang, whose casting on the show was originally overshadowed by the firing of Shane Gillis for the racist stereotypes in his stand-up act.
Shane Gillis will host on February 24th. No musical guest has yet been announced, but watch them bring back Morgan Wallen.
