The Friday The 13th films became a staple of the ’80s. Fans flocked to the cinema to see Jason Voorhees slaughter teens, pre-marital canoodlers, and Manhattanites. Post the Regan presidency, Jason began to lose steam. By Obama’s time in office, a reboot was attempted, and that’s the last time we saw the once-abandoned camper on the big screen.

Many attempts have been made since 2009 to get Jason Voorhees back to doing what he does best, but legal complications about who owns the rights to the hockey mask-wearing killer have kept that from happening. There was a video game, but even that was eventually undone by the courtroom drama. Now, Horror INC. is stepping in to give Jason a new home.

IGN reports that the famed slasher will receive a “universe” from Horror INC., aptly titled the Jason Universe. The initiative will see Voorhees get new projects across all manner of media (though it is not clear if he will be returning to the big screen). This announcement came shortly after Bryan Fuller parted ways with a Friday The 13th prequel series he was developing for A24.

President of Horror Inc. Robert Barsamian told IGN, “For decades, Jason shocked and thrilled audiences who kept coming back for more. We’re excited to work with Victor Miller and Marc Toberoff on new projects we’ll announce in the coming months.” VP Robbie Barsamian added, “We’re focused on honoring the legacy while elevating the fan experience and appealing to today’s horror audiences as we develop new ways to watch, interact, and engage with the Jason Universe.”

While details have been promised for the coming months, this isn’t the first time a company has promised a universe focused on horror icons. Universal’s Monsterverse seemed far more formed at the time of its announcement but ended up dead on arrival. We’ll see if the Jason Universe ends up bearing more spooky fruit.
