Typically, when I receive a press release via email, I don’t even bother to click on it before I hit delete. I spend a solid 3 percent of my workday deleting press releases. I should pay myself more. But my heart actually swelled a little when I saw the subject line: ACCLAIMED SMASH HIT LUDWIG BEGINS FILMING SEASON TWO FOR BRITBOX.

What is happening to me? And why am I so excited about a Britbox series? I have the Ludwig fever, and maybe a little of the knee pain that comes with being in its target audience.

But joy of joys, Ludwig is filming its second season. Do you like Elsbeth? Or High Potential? LUDWIG SMOKES THEM ALL. He solves crimes using his puzzle-making skills! Suck it, Will Shortz.

Ahem. Yes. Shooting has begun. Here’s what we know: Season 2 picks up where the first season left off. Ludwig is now a consultant for the police department, and now that he’s official, he’s not allowed to use police resources to investigate his missing brother, which, of course, he ignores. He’s also more Ludwig than ever because he’s no longer masquerading as his brother.

David Mitchell returns as Ludwig (and his twin brother), along with Anna Maxwell Martin, Dipo Ola, Dylan Hughes, Dorothy Atkinson, Ralph Ineson, and Karl Pilkington. Gerran Howell, unfortunately, is not listed, so it looks like we’ve lost him to The Pitt, which is fair enough.

Mark Bonnar, who is in every British series ever, is joining the cast, along with Sian Clifford (of Fleabag), Ben Ashenden, and Rumi Sutton.

There will again be six episodes, all written by Mark Brotherhood and directed by Stella Corradi and George Kane. No release date has yet been announced.

Related: Lynley begins streaming on Britbox today, so if you haven’t watched Ludwig yet, there are at least two series there for you, which is reason enough to subscribe.
