Elizabeth Banks has an impressive career. She’s been a professional actor for TV and film for decades. Banks has directed three feature films, including last year’s biggest Oscar snub, Cocaine Bear. As a producer, she has a lengthy résumé as well. She’s funny, talented, and is so in demand that her latest project created a bidding war that saw Peacock come out on top.

Banks will star in a new show that received a straight-to-series order from the Universal-owned streamer. The Miniature Wife was created by Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner of Boardwalk Empire fame, who will be showrunners and executive produce the show as well. Elizabeth won’t be alone, as she’ll be joined by Succession star Matthew Macfayden!

The Miniature Wife is based on a short story by Manuel Gonzalez. Deadline reports that it is, “a high-concept marital dramedy examining the power (im)balances between spouses, Lindy (Banks) and Les (Macfadyen), who battle each other for supremacy after a technological accident induces the ultimate relationship crisis.” Macfayden being in another show where he has a power struggle with his wife is certainly on-brand.

The pairing of Banks and Macfayden is enticing. The fact that the show will be a dramedy adds to the excitement. Both have proven that they can ride that line with ease. Their skills are well-suited for a show of this nature, and at my core, I’m just excited to watch them bicker. Having a couple that believably dislikes each other is just as difficult as finding one who possesses a believable fondness.

Full details on the show are still under wraps, but the short story on which it is based is about a decade old.
