Remember how, earlier this year, we were all like, “Ugh. How many chances is Alec Baldwin going to get?” after ABC announced that he would be getting a weekly talk show that would air Sunday nights in primetime on the network? (This despite the fact a similar Alec Baldwin talk show aired on MSNBC in 2013 and tanked). Maybe you’ve been wondering for the last six months when that talk show would finally premiere (I sincerely doubt this, because I suspect Alec Baldwin only enters your brain space when he does something stupid).
Well, guess what?! Here’s the thing: It premiered several months ago. Did you know that? Because I didn’t know that. And guess what else? It’s been airing every week, although it no longer airs on Sunday, because the ratings were abysmal, so ABC moved it to Saturdays, where even fewer people watch it.
In fact, over the weekend, The Alec Baldwin Show scored its lowest ratings of the season. From Decider:
According to TV By The Numbers, The Alec Baldwin Show pulled in a measly 0.2 rating in the key 18-49 demographic and just 0.98 million viewers, a ratings low for the series. Thanks to Saturday’s abysmal numbers, Baldwin’s talk show was the lowest-rated program on ABC, CBS, and NBC Saturday night — by almost 770,000 viewers.
Wow. Less than a million people, half of which were probably Baldwins and the other half were probably viewers who fell asleep while watching “The Great Christmas Light Fight.”
Inexplicably, despite the horrific ratings, ABC still has not canceled The Alec Baldwin Show, although I suspect it’s because ABC doesn’t realize it’s still on.
This has been your monthly Alec Baldwin schadenfreude post.
