The People vs. O.J. Simpson: How Robert Kardashian's Press Conference Differed from David Schwimmer's

The second episode of FX’s The People vs. OJ Simpson aired tonight, and it largely took up the low-speed pursuit of O.J. Simpson in the White Ford Bronco driven by Al Cowlings. Before OJ took off in the Bronco with Cowlings, he did threaten to commit suicide in the room of Robert Kardashian’s daughter (there is some dispute about whether it was the room of Khloe Kardashian or Kim Kardashian, but also, who gives a rat’s ass?)

Before the low-speed chase began, and while police were still pursuing OJ Simpson, his close friend (and later attorney) Robert Kardashian also reads during a press conference what appears to be a suicide letter written earlier that day by Simpson. A few moments of this is shown during the second episode of The People vs. O.J. Simpson, and while Schwimmer bears some resemblance to the real-life Robert Kardashian, his delivery is much more Ross Geller than Kardashian.

The other difference? In reality, it took five minutes to read the letter, and there was no question that it was a suicide letter. Moreover — at least in the clip provided — no one asked Robert Kardashian who he was or mispronounced his last name. That was clearly a crass ploy to include another shot of the actresses playing the young Kardashian daughters.

Here’s the actual press conference and it’s interesting, at least for a few moments. The series was clearly smart to edit it down because Kardashian really belabored the reading of it.
