On the one hand, why not just get Glenn Fleshler to play the Penguin? He’s a great actor and provides most of what Colin Farrell provides in his depiction of the Gotham villain.
On the other hand, with all due respect to Mr. Fleshler, he is not a household name. Colin Farrell is. It’s also wicked fun to see Farrell in a role so transformative that we have to remind ourselves that it’s Farrell underneath all that makeup designed to make him look like Glenn Fleshler playing The Penguin. He reminds me of RDJ’s line in Tropic Thunder: “I’m the dude playing the dude disguised as another dude.”
The full trailer also gives us a better sense of Cristin Milioti’s Lady Macbeth character, and I assume that Clancy Brown will play a bad guy because he always does.
Picking up after the events of The Batman, The Penguin will follow Oswald Cobblepot as he makes a play to seize the reins of the crime world in Gotham. The series comes to Max in September.
