“You keep going to space, we’re going to continue to unionize.” Those are the words of Amazon Labor Union President Chris Smalls. Chris did what many thought was impossible: He unionized an Amazon warehouse in Staten Island. It was a hard-fought battle that lasted over two years, but Chris isn’t done. He spoke to Trevor Noah on The Daily Show about everything he has left to do, and there is a lot.

The story of Chris Smalls is one I often hope to see but rarely do. He is fighting for fairness and equality in a way that transcends race and political parties. This is about workers being treated like they matter. Amazon has the means to take care of its employees. That makes its pushback against Chris’s efforts feel all the more insidious. Amazon attacked his character, his education, and his strength. But Chris never wavered.

The fight isn’t over for Chris. There are more Amazon warehouses, and more employees are being treated unfairly. Unions can provide a better way of life for Amazon’s employees. Chris isn’t going to stop until the union he helped build does exactly that. He is an inspiration, a legend. In the future, I don’t want to hear the term, “David versus Goliath” anymore. From now on, let’s go with “Chris Smalls versus Amazon.”

Don’t even bring up Bezos’s name. He’ll be too busy in space to hear it anyway.
