Can 'Scrubs' Recapture the Magic?

The original Scrubs is maybe my favorite broadcast network comedy of all time. It is my ultimate comfort television. I’ve even been watching Scrubs 2.0 — it’s not as bad as people said it was at the time. I’d put it up favorably against any network comedy these days.

And that’s mostly where I am with the reboot. If it is half as good as the original, that’s good enough. I’ll miss the janitor (who does not appear to be in the reboot), and I’m not sure that Vanessa Bayer is an adequate substitute for Dr. Kelso, either. And Bill Lawrence comedies after Bill Lawrence leaves have a checkered history (Cougar Town was just fine; Ted Lasso season three? Less so.)

But the core gang is back, and it’s hard not to be excited about that. The first full length trailer has dropped, too, and while I was somewhat skeptical — there’s maybe too many callbacks — as soon as the Modest Mouse song dropped, I was all in.

Scrubs returns to ABC on February 25th.
