Baby Reindeer has been such a monster hit on Netflix over the past five weeks that it’s overshadowed everything else save for the Tom Brady Roast, at least until the viewing numbers for the third season of Bridgerton are released. That includes the limited series Man in Full, which barely improved upon its middling first weekend numbers with its first full week, which benefited only from lookie-loos who wanted to see just how laughable the ending really was.
It’s not just Man in Full: As we wrote a few weeks ago, Dead Boy Detectives, which comes from the Sandman universe, has been a resounding failure for the streamer after three weeks in which its total views over that time is less than the views for Baby Reindeer in its fifth week alone. Don’t expect to see Dead Boy Detectives return.
The same can likely be said of Will Forte’s Bodkin. Despite the potent combination of true crime, podcasts, and the Irish countryside, the first week of the Netflix series recorded dismal numbers, gaining only 3.3 million views. For comparison’s sake, The Brother’s Sun fetched 4.1 million in its first week (and was canceled), Dead Boy Detectives premiered with 3.1 million views and will likely be canceled, and the canceled The Imperfects premiered with 3.4 million while Glamorous kicked its run off with 2.3 million views. Both of the latter two were canceled.
Even taking into account how inexpensive Bodkin likely was compared to Obliterated (canceled with 7 million views in its premiere week), it’s still not likely to merit another season, particularly given the middling reviews and the complete lack of buzz. With its second full week going head-to-head with the third season of Bridgerton and the Ashley Madison documentary series, it’s unlikely matters will improve.
For what it’s worth, after five weeks, Baby Reindeer is approaching 70 million views, in total. To break the top ten, it would need to beat out the 83 million views of the first season of Witcher. It is well within striking distance.
